i have used the search with no answers, if anyonw knows of a thread about this let me know. I have a 97 J30 and i want to change out my old power steering fluid but i dont know how to drain it. might seem simple or silly not to know how, but hey what can i say. and also i didnt search this. but can someone tell me of all the fluids that i need to be concerned about this J30 has 113,000 on it and the only thing thats been changed is the oil, transmission fluid, and the coolant. I appreciate all replies thank you very much

I just use a pump that you can find at the auto store to pump oil and stuff out of a bottle. Just stick it in the res and pump out all that you can. Then add new fluid. It won't get it all but you can come back and do it again later.

You can do the same for the brake fluid and then bleed the brakes to get all the old out.

The only other fluid is the rear diff fluid.

You can also change the fuel filter.

the way they would do it at the shop might go sumtin like this.

1. remove fluid return line to resivior.2. place that line in a bucket. (to catch fluid as it flys out)3. plug up the return hole on the resivior.4. (this is where it gets fun, or messy) have someone turn on the car and let it idle.5. poor new fluid into the resivior as the the old fluid is being caught in the bucket. (if the old fluid is black and dirty then ull be able to see when to stop, when the fluid coming out is then clean.)6. shut off the car when new fluid is comming from the return line7. reconnect the return line to the resivior.8. top off fluid......

then ur good to go

Don't forget to add some Lucas power steering fluid treatment. Good stuff.
