I'm gonna be driving my KA for probably 6 months more before i can swap, i love to drive it a lot and very hard. I'm thinking i should put in some good synthetic, but what grade and weight would be best? It should be getting kinda cold here in the next two to three months. I only got two months on this oil change, the mechanic i bought it from did oil, inspection and emmissions for me, cause he's so awesome.

thanks

if you're only going to be driving it for 6 months then pour some tar down the engine

I've been using Valvoline Durablend 10w-40, but that's not a pure synthetic (hence the "blend" part). I went with Durablend since I couldn't find Synpower in 5w-40. Valvoline is supposed to have some good detergents in their oil.

I'm due to change my oil this month, and I'll probably stick with the 10w-40 Durablend until my *next* change. For the winter months (it gets cold in PA too) I'll run 5w-30.

I've used Castrol GTX in the past, and that should be fine for you (and cheaper) as long as you change your oil on schedule.

I went with a jug of Mobil 1 15w 50 high performance blend. THE FUDGING LIFTER NOISE IS STILL THERE!!! I'm a little upset that my car still makes the noise. The engine runs smoother now though. The fact that my beloved car is making an abnormal noise offends me. I must find out how to fix it.

Before your next oil change out in a quart of MOBIL1 ATF.let idle ( VERY gently) for an hour.

repeat at every oil change until noise is gone. ( can take a few changes)

<or> run put in a bottle of MMO the week of the oil change.Dont wait too long before oil change, after MMO is in though ( u can drive with it in) or the varnish will redeposit.

Do you mind explaining the term MMO? Cause to me it means Massively Multiplayer Online...meaning those online games like Everquest. What does it mean in Car speak? I'm enjoying the performance of the Mobil 1. It feels smoother, not really faster, but smoother. And only 18.88 at Walmart.

Oh i've seen the MMO stuff in stores but im skeptical of something you can put in gas and oil. Is that stuff good or should i go seafoam? Actually i'l probably just use this oil change till i get my new engine. Would it really be the end of the world if my KAs last 5-10k miles were spent on one batch of Mobil 1? She burn enough oil that its almost a change by 3k miles lol.

I prefer seafoam.

If you are sure U r changing the engine then no big deal to leave it in I guess especially since that MOBIL1 15w-50 is among teh most stable oils out there.Still just giving it one oil change would really help out the next guy who is buying your engine.

ALSO what if delays come with your new engine, they usualld do regardless of were u order from these days.

Better not abuse the current engine just in case.

I treat my engine with the utmost love and respect, but its days are numbered. Who would buy a 217k Sohc Ka anyway? I would like to keep it in great shape and leave it in my garage for when i blow up my CA. i'd swap my KA back in, suffer with its weakness, and rebuild my CA so that it is omnipotent. I'l probably change it much past 5k miles cause im a softy when it comes to car care. Here's hoping i have a CA in there and SDS managed before that happens.

I've about 164k on my SOHC now, and have been using Mobile 1 10-30 for a while. Works great, don't see why heavier oils should be used unless you've got noise coming from the inside of you engine which would require a heavier oil to keep the parts from rubbing so heavily.
