Well, the 3 is going to be more fun to drive...The big minus for me is the 3 series' size. It also probably won't be as reliable as the I30. Bimmers tend to have minor electrical issues.

60K miles is low-ish for an '01 and 10k is a great deal (though that's by SLC, World Capital of high used car prices, standards).

Judging by the thread title, I assume you plan to get rid of the I30? You should be able to make up for most of that 10k selling the I.

Depends on what you want, I guess. Even with my distaste for small cars, I'd probably go for it.

Drive it first and get a feel for it. Drive in traffic, open it up on the freeway, and if you can take some windy roads. If you like the way it feels then go to consumers reports and check quality reports. If there are parts that are problematic with the car check pricing to see if you can afford the upkeep of the Bimmer.

it may seem to be a great deal, but from my personal experience, lots of folks come in with weird issues on bimmers. (i work for advance auto parts) i had a customer of mine that had a v6 firebird (of course he could not get everything he wanted because its a v6) he got rid of it. then he got a bimmer. he has spent almost $2000 in repairs with me in the past two months. up to you bro, i say stick with the I30. i am biased.

maybe you could talk to elwesso to get some more insight.

I must say that if I were to dump the I30, it would be in favor of an XI. That's because I like to drive 75 in the snow, but I would need the 525 body. Considering you are in AZ, the weather probably doesn't really factor into your need for an AWD.... Can you afford to get that car and off it for a little more $$$?

After driving it get under it and look around

see if its been driven over a curb and look for oil leaks

Get a bimmer mechanic to check it out
