changing fuel pump on 2002 nissan xterra

I have a question , do I need to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel pump, it has a acess hatch at the top of the tank and i have a book that says in one part to change it there and another part that says to drop the tank but the pictures it shows does not look like what i am seeing inside my tank. any help would be appricated, thanks Dan

Pull up your seat cushion on the right side as well as the rear hatch area carpet. I haven't confirmed this (because my X is sitting at home) but there may be an access panel you can remove and not have to drop the tank.

Dropping the tank is a PITA and you have my sympathies if there's no acess panel to get at the pump.
