Trying to not spend money on synthetic oil... But I have used it the last two oil changes. Is it ok to swith back to conventional oil? I know this is a huge, heavy debated topic... Has anyone tried this on their versa? Thanks!

you will be fine, it is when you do it for years and then decide to switch that is when issues arise.

Yes. You can go back and forth between synthetic and conventional oil.

You can also use synthetic for years and go back to conventional oil without problems.

I have been told by a few mechanics if the car has had Conv. Oil for say 100, 000KM and then you decide to change it to Synt. it can cause the gaskets to leak because the oil is thinner and can creak through the cracks in the gaskets.

Again I have been told this numerous of times.

Your techs are misinformed. It is a myth. A myth that for whatever reason continues to be spoken by so called mechanics who obviously do not know what they're talking about. This has been disproven for quite some time.

You can put synthetic oil in your car with 100,000 miles or 100,000 kilometers without adverse affects, even if you only used conventional oil during all those miles.

For once and for all:

You don't need a break in period with conventional oil. You can use synthetic from mile one.

You can use synthetic or conventional oil and alternate without affecting any seals or gaskets.

You can put synthetic oil in your car after many years or many miles and it will not cause the seals or gaskets to leak any more than with conventional oil.

There is one precaution, and this is only a precaution, one should take when changing from dinosaur oil to synthetic oil on an engine that has lots of miles...say over 30,000. The precaution is after you change over to the synthetic oil, change your oil filter out early....somewhere around 1000 miles after the oil change. The reason for this is due to the synthetic oil flushing out (it's cleaning the inside of your engine) the polymer molecules (the gunk you see on the top of the heads and in the oil galley passageways) and this gunk can stop up your oil filter. Again, this is a precaution that costs approximately $3. Dinosaur oil has to have these polymers added to make it multi-viscious. You only need to do this once....not with every oil change.
