This could be a completely insane question, but one of my fog lights has gone down, and I'd like to know if I can just replace a bulb or if I'll have to buy a whole new fog light replacement? I've always seen headlight bulb replacements in Wal-Mart and other stores, but only see whole fog lights that you can buy.

If there is a fog light bulb I can buy, where can I buy it and how hard is it to install? Also, is there a # for the bulb - like HB2 (our headlight #)?

Regardless of year, you don't need to get a whole new fog lamp assembly. You just need to replace the bulb, and that's where knowing the year of your pathfinder comes in.
Replacing the bulb is very easy. You can do it yourself in less than 20 mins.

If your pathfinder is 96-04 there are black "louvers" or "grille" inserts however you want to call them next to your fogs. you will need to pry those out, so go in with a flat head screwdriver with cloth wrapped around it so you dont scratch the paint (trust me on this one) once that is out, it will reveal 2 10mm bolts. go at it with a ratchet, once that is out your fog light assembly will simply pop out.

there should be a spring type anchor that you push down and out and the bulb will come out. there is a lil wire plug that is attatched to it. remove that as well. keep the assembly clean, dont put anything in it as well when handling the new bulb where latex gloves, the oils and whatever you have on your hands can shorten the bulb life significantly. Stick it back in, there should be the wire plug that you will replace and resecure it. test the light then put it all back together.

To answer your question about my year.. it's a 2001.

The process seems pretty simple, from what you said, Innovazn. I also found out I need a H3 bulb, which I've found a couple online. One question though.. I'm looking at the bulb, and there is a long wire that comes out from the bulb. How do you make a connection with this? I see it's not as simple as headlight bulb replacement where you just snap it into the old housing.

once you remove the foglights, look at it carefully and youll se the exact same thing. remove whats in there and replace with the new. again, wear latex gloves and dont get anything on the new bulb

You just slide that wire into a sleeve. You'll see it when you remove your current bulb.

sorry to highjack, but does anyone know where to get these grilles cheap? someone took mine and the dealer wants $50 :gapteeth: also does anyone have a better method to secure them? they pop out so easy.

junkyard, and as for securiing... there really is no other way... i mean you could bolt it down.. or super glue it.. . not only would it look funny with the bolt in it, but when your bulb blows youre kinda screwed with the glue all up in that joint

I notice a large number of Pathfinders without the black louvers. I find that it's somewhat difficult to remove mine so I don't know how a lot of people lose them while driving. Inno is right, there really isn't any other method of securing them since you need to remove them in order to get to your fog lamp bulbs.

I am not sure about the Pathfinders, but my trim piece beside the fog light has to screws which fasten into two holes in the fog light. Once you remove them, there is another bolt to remove the whole housing.

For some reason they did it differently for the QX4's, at least for the 3.5's.

Just replaced the foglight bulbs last nite. Extremely simply, really liked the design. Now as for the headlights, was it a joke on North America to replace headlight bulbs?? Unbelievable, remove, grille, remove corner lamp, remove filler panel, remove front headlamp, pull back rubber boot, etc etc. What were they thinking....

I think he was referring to the number of steps required to change the bulb.

I tried just pulling it out first. It is held on by steel clips you cant see underneath the rubber boots, they wouldnt come off. Then I pulled out Chiltons manual and followed their steps... You are probably right Inno, I had no idea about the clips etc and followed the Chiltons insane steps to replace headlight bulbs. Used Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's, bright in comparison to stock.

Since I did remove the headlights and corner lamps, I decided to use VHT Nite Shades on the corner lamps while they were off. Not sure if I like it or not. Its different. The VHT paint went on very easily. Plan on using it for the red trim around the tail lights. Would do the whole tail light assembly with it but gives a reason to be pulled over.
