I'm a pretty new to auto mechenical works. So far I have changed starter motor on my car...

As days go by, I sense the rattling of the engine during idling is getting harshier. It's the time to change the engine mount.

How do I change the engine mount? I know I have to lift the engine up. But how hi do I lift it up? Do I have to disconnect it from transmission and all the pipes?

There is a decent writeup on importnut.net, which is what I used as a reference. I did my engine mounts three weeks ago or so. I ended up having to unbolt the mounting bracket on the block on the passenger's side, cause i couldn't lift the engine any higher.. Once I did that though, it wasn't a problem. make sure you swap the transmission mount too, to prevent uneven stress on the engine/transmission..

good luck.

Which transmission mount and engine mount do you recommand? Are Nismo ones good? How firmer than stock ones are they?

I installed Nismo engine and transmission mounts, and i like them a lot. Visually, the engine rocks much less on startup. My shifter used to wobble over bumps, and when I got on/let off the gas, now it's solid as heck. The throttle response is also more direct.

I don't notice much of an increase in vibrations, but I have an S13 (14 years old), so everything vibrates, due to the stiffer suspension and T/C rods, and Subframe collars...

alright heres my junk for you..

unbolt the engine from the mounts (2 14mm nuts) and attach an engine lift to the engine and pull the engine up. the motor should go up enough to clear the mounts. After this, on the bottom of each mount is a 14mm nut, undo that nut and the mount comes off. As you take the mount off, take note of where the mount was because theres different places the mount can go (up or downward) this is easy.. trust me. i wouldnt worry about the transmission mount.. after you do all of this.. the motor can come back to its home and bolt it up. Just 4 bolts.. and a 14mm ratchet.. and you should be good. Good luck
