Ok... changed my diff fluid again today (yes, I said again. I'll explain that in a moment). Here are a few notes that I picked up today...

1. AdvanceAuto had a $3 tool that threads right on to the end of the bottle with about 12" of hose on it. Basically this made it so that I was able to fill the fluid in about 15 seconds per bottle.

2. I did mine again, plus I did it on my Dad's Q. I decided to do mine again (just did it about a week ago) for a couple of reasons. First, I wasn't totally confident that I filled the fluid completely due to my screw ups last time. Second, the fluid looked SO BAD last time that I thought it couldn't hurt to do it again. Finally, as Q maintenance goes, the $17 it costs for Diff Fluid is practically free!

3. Warming the fluid in the oven worked wonderfully well. I set the oven at about 100 degrees and just left the bottles in there for about 10 minutes. I then pulled one bottle at a time while I was working, leaving the others to stay warm in the oven.

4. Getting diff fluid in your eye works well as a lubricant. Not only did I not need to flush my eyes with water... my blinking performance has never been so smooth. I highly recommend it.

On a final note... I'm starting to feel like an expert. I did an oil change and diff fluid change on both of the Q's today...finished the whole project in less than 2 hours! Go me.

The old diff fluid in the eye trick, huh?! I did the same thing when I pulled the tube from the diff, it sprung out and gave me a good shot!

On this last change, could you tell if the fluid was still dirty?

Came out pretty clear the second time. So, i don't think it removed any additional crap. Plus, the magent looked clean this time.

I don't think the 2nd change did anything further than what the first one did. But, as stated... for $17 with M1...can't hurt.

Great story.

If the car is level and the fluid is running out of the fill orifice, it is full.

All you had to do is to get one of those hand pumps that screw on a gear oil bottle (1 gal)(like a soap bottle pump) and you would have done it the first time w/o an incident!Well, live and learn!I like your remark about gear oil as good lubricant!I should mention it to my safety manager, he'll have a good laugh!Cheers!
