So I fryed the stocker up tonight at the track, and I got a question.

With an RB25 in an S14, is it possible to just drop the trans to do the clutch, or am I going to have to yank the motor.

Reason Im asking is because the bolts look like a b**** to get to and the upper part of the trans is against the firewall wich makes it look like itd almost be impossible to slide the transmission off the engine.

About to do this myself, except in my s13... Upon taking the bolts out of the trans mount it will lower the end of trans side. I believe this will allow enough room to reach the undesired bolt at the top. If still not enough room front subframe can be unbolted and lower the whole engine and everything just enough to allow room for the swap. Just lowering it could result in not having to unbolt/unhook anything as far as engine components. Just to check this just unbolt the trans mount and lower it to check all clearances and if bolt is reachable.
Hope this helps.

I've done the in car clutch job 3 or 4 times. Loosen the subframe bolts as well as the engine mounts (didn't completely unbolt them), from there you can go ahead and drop the transmission mount. After that i placed a floor jack with a piece of wood under the front of the engine and jacked it up to tilt the transmission/engine far enough to give easy access to the top bolts.

Loosening the subframe bolts seems a bit excessive...

Ive never heard of any one doing a transmission drop in an s chassis with out taking out the motor or doing some thing like lowering the subframe or possibly taking out and engine mount or two. There's just no room for those top bolts.

Its hard enough with a factory KA, and there's absolutely no room for a rb swap.

RB25 into R32 GTSt = everything said + don't forget to loosen the intercooler piping if you have a front mount IC. Gave me a LOT more room. Might help.
