Changing Battery

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,my EX just passed 5 yrs!!! It's been a great reliable ride so far... Did my brakes over the weekend (fronts still had about 5mm while the rear down to 2mm w/ 44k miles on the odo).

Battery is 'ok' but I'm going to change it and keep the old on in the garage just in case. My question is what I need to be aware of disconnecting the battery? I am not worry about the radio stations / audio settings being erased, but what else will I need to 're-do' / 're-set' after replacing battery?
thx!

You should only have to do the windows, radio settings, clock, and memory seats. I don't think there is anything else unless I am unaware.

Yeah...that's all I had to do on my last Infiniti (09 M35x. Can't remember if the sunroof was affected

I have a battery booster pack that i can plug into the cig lighter, works the same way as a home made one where they cut a car phone charger and hook it up to the small 9v batt. Plug it in, push the button to on and that it. Now you can change the batt and your setting will still be there. :dblthumb:

Nice. Sounds pretty convenient.

I use a battery charger/maintainer to keep the car's settings intact. I keep the alligator clips hooked to the battery cables while changing the battery out.

Quick add-on question. I have a battery booster pack like C.Ios describes above (Powerall) which can be charged through the cig lighter when the car's running. Will that work in reverse such that I can keep a charge to the electrical system with the booster in the cig lighter while changing the battery without harming the car? Thanks.

You can make it work like NJGuy mentioned above. It will keep the memory while you change the batt. Shouldn't Harm anything as long as the cables don't touch and positive doesn't touch the chassis. if you want to try the cig lighter you should, the worse is you'd have to input all the settings again.

If you choose to go through the 12V power outlet, you might need to at least set the ignition to 'accessory' mode. I not sure that the 12V outlets are live when the car is turned off.

They aren't. You have to turn the key as well. Forgot about that :chuckle:

Windows
you will loose your maintenance mileage reminder.... for example, I set my oil life to remind me at 6500K but when I changed my battery (just last weekend!), I lost that mile count. :(
Seat memory too...

Sure starts up nice and fast now!

OK - is it possible for a week battery to affect MPG? The last two tanks before I changed my battery were the worst MPG I have gotten in the car... around 17... On the tank after the battery change, I am getting just over 20 again.
