Changing 2004 M45 Battery

What memory settings are lost? Can you use the 9 volt memory saver adaptor that plugs into the cigarette lighter to retain all settings? Thanks.

Although it is not recommended at all, what I have learned is that you can have the car running and replace the battery as long as you dont let the cables touch anything and you can do it pretty quickly. I did this all the time on Audis and not once had a problem.
