Thought I would give everyone an update on the recent changes made to the garage and plans for future projects.

First of all, I think we should all pay our respects to one of the most bada55 cars of all time:

the Vert
Image

She was sold somewhere around Halloween (September - November was a blur). Went to a great guy here in the Valley who has been on the local boards for a long time.

Also gone is the Vette. Her new home is in FL.

Image

The Frontier will never go away. She's the only thing we have that the whole family fits into. She also hauls all of our awesome loot around the country.

Image

The Cube is a PITA but that's a different thread.

Image

This you may not know about. It's my new daily. Yes, it's a Honda and Yes, I love it. It's a 2000 Insight and it gets 60+ mpg. My monthly fuel bill was slashed by about 90%. WIN. Dar nick-named her "Buzz".

Image

Greg liked it so much, he bought himself one. Much more efficient for his commute. I don't have a picture of his, but it looks similar to mine, it just doesn't have the wrap like mine does.

Bella is finally finished. Finally. Clutch is fixed and the CLSD is in. I plan on driving her a lot before summer gets here. :D

Image

Betty. (Still not stoked about her name, but I guess it will grow on me). She is the next project. Our goal is to have her finished by JCCS.

Image

Marilyn She is one of the funnest cars in the garage to drive. Love, love, love this car. She will get restored at some point but we're just gonna drive her until she won't go anymore and worry about it then.

Image

Alice She is just hawt. This is an older pic but I don't have the ones that Christine took at JCCS readily available

Image

Peanut Greg's favorite. Her restoration starts after the Dime is finished. She is going to be a frame off, bolt and nut, complete ground up resto.

Image

Sheila Our foreigner. Thank you Andy for sending me that link.

Image

Metro She needs a good home. I have always loved these cars and was super-excited when Greg found this one. However. we just have too many irons in the fire right now and not enough space. She is for sale.

Image

and Last but not Least.... Charlotte. The '31 Ford. Belongs to Greg's dad. She's one hell of a late-in-life-crisis-purchase but she is absolutely stunning. She is in our garage so I am claiming her based solely on real estate. :gapteeth:

Image

So, there you have it. Hope you enjoy the pics. If you have questions about any of them, feel free to ask.

(No, Bella is not for sale).

I was just talking about that Vert today actually. I remember it being FS for like 6 months but I never knew it really did go.

Even after 5 years I never named my old 240. I think your names fit the cars absolutely perfectly, especially Peanut, Alice, and Metro.

I love your stable, especially the model A and Metropolitan. Are your commutes far?? I totally get the dazzling gas mileage of the Insights, but the last time I drove an one, I found myself yawning enough to negate a good bit of the mileage benefit. I guess I'm not the hypermiler type. But if I still had a long commute (I don't anymore), I think Hondas make a lotta sense, but I'd probably look at a different one, like an early unmolested CRX.

As far as names, I really like all your choices. My dad called every car he had "ol Bessie". It seemed to work as he tended to keep his cars forever. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree as I seem to hold onto cars forever too, but I haven't named any of them Bessie...yet. :)

I like how the Cube is just "The Cube".

Thats not a/c, thats where the super rare Earth mineral impossiblanium is housed that provides warp drive.

Greg's commute is 60 miles round trip, mine is 48. They warrant hyper-miling, especially considering the amount of time we spend on the road other than from work and back. These help fund Bella's fuel bill :gapteeth: as well as our other build projects. The less we pay for fuel, the more "unbelievably obscure and expensive Datsun parts" we can justify. It cost about $80 per week just to go to work when we were driving the truck and Vette as DD. Now, we spend less than that each per month.

We looked at CRX's to begin with but they were unbelievably expensive. People knew what they had and they were trying to retire off of them. Couldn't justify the cost.

I see all those old Dats and imagine Greg in 20 years or so telling some kid, "Wax on, wax off." And Betty is a perfect name for the new project as long as you leave it flat black and rock some Ram Jam every time you crank the engine. And she needs to be a beast. :yesnod

That Honda needs a Spacely Sprockets bumper sticker. :)

The name Betty did come from the Ram Jam song. Also, even though the Spacely Sprockets sticker would be cool, I like the "your Prius sucks" one better. We had some guy stop by the house the other day and ask what they were. (They are de-badged). He said his wife drives a Prius and she was curious who the jackass was that was bashing her car. When we told him how little we paid for ours and how much better the mileage is, he went pale. :rotfl

Hmmm. I thought Betty might have come from the old Archie comics which date back to the 510's era. I see a less stylish looking car like an old Dime named Betty instead of Veronica.

If you were having problems with the Cube and need a name, how about a nice french first name like "Henri", with a middle name "Liable". ;)

Greg decided to swap a bigger engine(MR20) and a manual transmission into it: cube-engine-and-manual-transmission-swap-t506585.html

He's a bit touchy about it too  :couch

Is there any interesting stories behind the names that we would wanna know about???

I love the stable I plan on having one myself eventually.

Here my plan:
My TT Z32 (OF COURSE!)
S14 Kouki, VH45, Supercharged
S30, 4 barrel slapped onto a 350 crate motor.

Of course keep my Z71 Sierra (that yall see in my profile on DD duties/parts hauler) then when things on her start breaking to much set her aside and use her for ripping a** off road.

Purchase a new 4WD Z71 Sierra for DD duties/parts hauler.

- The Cube's plate is not her name. She doesn't have one.
- Saraya named Peanut.
- I named Bella (stands for beautiful).
- Greg picked Alice for the wagon after the maid on the Brady Bunch.
- Greg picked Betty for the Dime because of the ram Jam song, "Black Betty".
- Marilyn is named for Marilyn Monroe because she was flashy and bought in Beverly Hills.
- Charlotte was named after Greg's mom.
- Sheila's name was chosen because it was a common Australian name.

Very nice!

If I had to pick my favorite vehicle out of yalls collection I would hands down go with Bella. She is as beautiful as a rose but as ferocious as Godzilla.
