Problem: can't get it started.

Engine: SR20DET

Background: Battery was dead, replaced battery. Car cranked and started right up, but I didn't give it any gas (a little gas was required when starting up my last 180) and it stalled out. Now it just cranks but I can't get it to actually start. I checked all 10 and 15 fuses.

Help a brother out.

Online mech. forum can help you more, but make sure you are getting fuel and spark, if so, check your timing and all fuses and relays related to ignition/starting etc.

Swapped motor or came from Japan land with an SR?

You need to start doing the usual checks for a non-start:Do you have spark?Do you have fuel?Do you have compression? We'll assume you have this one since the car was running, and a dead battery caused your problems.

The easiest way to check for spark is to pull the #1 coil pack, and put a long screw driver into it. Then set the screw driver down on something metal and have someone crank the car. Make sure you're not holding the screwdriver, or you'll get a nice surprise.

To check for fuel, pull a spark plug and do the sniff test on it. Most times on a non-start issue that is getting fuel, the plug should be wet with gas.

Knowing if your car is a swapped car or if it's a real 180SX helps a ton as most people here have 240s with swapped SRs.

No it is an actual 180sx, not a swap.

Is it possible I flooded it?Last week prior to replacing the battery, I tried to start it the way I used to start my other 180s, by pressing the gas as it turned over. It didn't start, so then I replaced the battery but locked the keys in the car before I got to crank it. I'm thinking that it was flooded from me trying to press the gas on attempt #1. Then after sitting for a week waiting for me to get the doors unlocked I tried it and it started up fine with the new battery, but died because I didn't press the gas after it started.
