I initially bought it because i read reviews that indicated the car was reliable which it sorta is. but every repair on this car from the littlest to the biggest is over $200. really. its not worth it

i got a $7500 offer by a company that buys used car. i dont know if I should get more. at the current time, the car has about 180,000 miles on it.

infiniti is a good car but i have to make a decision. should I cut my loses and just accept that I wasted 3 grand on repairs or should I keep driving it and waste evenmore? i thought of getting another car and just using the infiniti as a pure luxury ride but then again, thats another waste of money when you add insurance cost.

really, i'll see if I can get 8 grand for this car and if I cant, i'll just settle for the 7500 and finally stop the money wasting.

yeah, i know the car had 173000 miles on it when i bought it but hey, i had to know what it feels like to drive a luxury car and lol, i know. the ride was lovely, the speed was awesome, the car itself is in its own class because it is a very very very very rare on the road. thats what made me fall in love. lol but hey, its time to fall out of love. i'ma stick with a toyota for now.

the next luxury car am getting will be brand new.

I think you should keep it..

What have you done so far to it? After 3 grand you gotta be close to catching up.. After you get it up to snuff, its just regular maintenance after that, and its very cheap on the Q.....

its still got alot of miles on it.. Id cut your losses and get something with lower mileage as to be more reliable. Its no fun not having a car, this i do know..

I think "wasted" is what stands out for me in your description.

I would never use that word for any of the 3 Q45 I drive. They are all sublime and a great pleasure, each in their own way. All monetary expenditures have been well spent in maintaining the as new stock performance of these incredible cars. Inexpensive for the performance compared to the depreciation hit on a newer model luxury car.

Then again, yours has more miles than all 3 of mine combined.

the miles detract alot from a car. The more miles the less reliable itll end up being. you need to decide if its worth it for you personally.

i have. and reality is, its not worth it. I already know I will hate going from a q45t to some toyota ebcause the q45t is just so lovely. i can easily accelerate anytime. damn, i love the car. but money is kinda tight now and its a decision i goto make.

i tried to ignore posts by Q45tech and other members that kept pointing out the defects of buying any car with that many miles. i tried so hard to ignore these posts but lets face it, they're telling the truth.

if money is not an object. if your the type to buy a new car every other year then maybe you can buy a used luxury car too with excessive miles on it. as for me, i've learned my lesson. better cash in on it now than wait a year or 2 years later and get like 2 grand for it.

It really boils down to 4,000 vs 3,000 pound cars and I4 vs V8.These two factors alone combined with their effects represent a doubling of maintenance and repair cost. From $1200 to at least $2400 per year........assuming the car is 100% right when purchased.......and we know this is never the case!

Had you purchased a 173k V8 BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac even a Lexus........the repair cost would be the same probably worse on every model except the Lexus.

Some people spend $6,000 per year on transport, some $8k, some $10k, and some $12,000 per year. Some even $14,000

One does not buy a 150,000 mile plus car and worry or even consider a resale price..[who would want it]........the only way is to drive it another 100,000 miles and junk or strip it for parts in the end hoping for a few thousand........

When you add up insurance, taxes, and payments, a new luxury car costs more. There is no brand new V8 sedan with this level of performance and comfort that will be cheaper to own than your 99 Q for 100,000 miles.

So do we get to see pictures or not?

Truest, in all honesty,,,i'm thinking the Q45 is not for you. buying a luxury car with that many miles, you really should know what you're getting into. i bought my 90Q knowing that i would be paying heavily for the upkeep. so far, i feel i'm way ahead of the game by not having a big monthly payment on a sub-Q45 car!!!! way your options,,,,,,get your Q45 running like new,,,or monthly payments that may add up to way more than repairs on your Q, for a much lesser car. i'll opt for a well maintained Q, anyday!!!!jeff

i said my next luxury car would be brand new. i never said I was gon get it anytime soon unless of course I win the lottery. really, up until getting the Q, I've never driven a luxury car except for some hopeless 1997/1998 cadillac catera which I drove around for a couple of days.

other than that. i never even been inside real luxury car like the Q. when I saw my Q45t at the dealership. i simply fell in love. i think it had just rained that day and we all know how hot a silver car looks after it has just gotten rained down.

i'm simply at fault here for falling in love. lol. in all honesty, i believe this q45t i have is simply meant to be used as a second car. it shouldnt be used for what I use it for which is "my main source of transportation". i have more miles on it in 4 months than most people do in a year

Actually, I consider it the best daily transportation you can get...

And the more miles, the better!

You see Jeff Williams, he puts more miles on his Q than probably 3 of us combined..... About 4k A MONTH!

In 2003, I was putting between 3-4k a month on my 94 G50. Without that car, the job would have been wretched.. Driving a G50 made it pleasureable :)

Except the times when it was at euro imports sapping my bank account, which was nearly every month for a while

I hate you have had a bad expeience in your Q, but look at what you have. You have a 5 year old car, with nearly 200,000 miles on it.

$3,000 for 7,000 miles of driving, is a litle high, unless you look at the guy who bought the car new. He lost at least $20,000, in the first 12 months.

If that companies offer is a solid one. Try to get anoter 10,000 miles out of it.

It is tough to have a car like the Q, when gas prices are well over $2 a gallon, and not your ordinary mechanic can work on it.

I think the best way to get our money ont of a Q, is like what Dennis said, Find the car you like, drive it until it is completely depreciated, then junk it.

When my Q gets 300,000 miles on it, It will go to a charity, or another NICO brother.

If you are looking to have a daily driver I would recommend a honda. No one can argue with their reliability and with the gas prices the way they are 25-30 mpg sounds pretty darn good to me.

But when it really boils down to it, any car is as reliable as any other. Its all about how its been maintained in its past.

Here's an idea...I bought my old honda just to commute to work (40 miles one way). Paid $750 for it and just drive it back and forth. Liability insurance only and my insurance actually went down slightly. It's a 5spd and night and day different from the Q. The only reason I did it was to keep the miles down on the Q. Saves money on gas, 2 reliable cars on hand and the pure thrill of driving the Q nights and weekends.

Or why not a Sentra, that is what i bought for my wife and she loves the little thing. Gets 32-38MPG and just goes and goes. I have a 97' Q45 that I bought with 42k on it, today it has 72k on it. I have had one repair in the 4 years since I bought it, a gas door solinod that went out. As they pointed out, any car that you'd buy with high mileage will cost you. I bought a 1985 Maxima with 125k on it in 1994 after the LA earthquake made my 300ZX a ***** to drive (I can't get my car outta, 2nd gear). I now have 285k on the car and I drive it to LA all the time, totally reliable. But i've replaced the transmission, brakes, starter, alternator (twice), power steering rack, etc. If you want to make an older car reliable you can but you gotta pay. the engine on that car will go forever if you take care of it, the other stuff is gonna cost you.

You can sell that car and pick up a used Sentra, Civic, Corrola etc for around 10k you should be able to get something with pretty low miles and it will not cost you. 173k is a high starting point, but why don't you list out what you've dropped money into already...also, did you ever take it to a dealership and have them go over the car to access the condition of it?

There is no car that is trouble free at 170K. My brother ownes newer Chevy and Ford truck. The parts are no cheaper and they are less reliable at half the miles.

Bottom line, no matter what the make, you are going to have repair bills for a car with 100K+ miles. No car parts, or the guys who know how to fix them right, are cheap -- regardless of make.

The Q is a great car that was engineered and built right. And I cannot name another car on the road, in its class that is less expensive to maintain. You gotta pay if you want to play!
