So I was driving the vert this weekend and came upon a decision that I hope I dont soon regret. I decided to give my son the charger instead of the 240 if he gets a job and pays for half of the car payment. I just dont see him taking care of the vert like it should be. Plus it gives me an excuse to do either a engine swap or 5 speed swap ..as im writing this im having 2nd thoughts. what do you guys think????

Keep the vert for your fun car, the Charger for your DD and buy him (or have him buy) a 1999 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner for his vehicle. No wait, that's what I did.

Vert needs some extra care otherwise it'll go downhill fast.

Good decision man, with a car like this a certain respect for the car has to be gained. I'm assuming he doesnt understand whats so great about it. And this way he gets to look cool infront of his friends in the charger!

yeah dude thats exactly right. he doesn't get the 240 thing yet. but the charger he does cause of the big a** bling rims I even asked his girlfriend when we were given her a ride home, "hey which car would you rather be riding in the charger or the 240?" she said the charger I almost pulled over and dragged her a** out of the car

I say keep em both for you and get him a beater. This is his first car right? He won't truly appreciate a nice car like the vert or the charger until he owns something worth much less. I'd be happy with a Civic or Corolla for my first car; which happen to both be very attainable, cheap, and reliable. hint hint

Teach him. It is your duty as a father-figure to pass down the knowledge bestowed upon you. Because if my son/daughter didn't take care of the car I give to him or her... they would sure feel the beat down.

If its his first car, then give him a bright yellow Tercel with 200k miles... wait thats what my dad did.

sometimes, as i have recently found out, some of your kids are not into the things your into. I have tried many of time to have him work with me on the car and teach him about it. I'm not very patient and i get frustrated with his lack of interest so I send his a** back in the house cause now he just gets in the way. My middle child however does seem interested in the work i do on the car so there's is still hope I can pass my knowledge off to him. My first car was a POS Vega so yeah he's lucky !!

my first was a volvo 850 turbo. Ran for a week with no oil, or at least very lowwww oil, ah I miss that car.......

Slip, I say you get him a beater, volvos, pickups, etc. Something that will keep him tethered to real life, (the kid isn't always going to have it as easy as driving dad's new charger) but something that might grow on him. you already said your not trying to spend alot of cash right? get him a beater dude

I say buy him a Versa (oh that's because I'm trying to sell mine).

But I too had to deal with a $1300 car for a first car, but it was an RX-7 so shouldn't complain.

He isn't going to appreciate a car you give him as much as he would a car he had to buy on his own.

Well its still a win-win. He likes the Charger and you can ensure the well-being of your vert
