After changing the fuel filter in my '81 datsun 720 I can't seem to get the fuel to pump into the motor. Tested it by continually pouring gas in via the carb but it just won't stay running without gas being manually added. The question I have is if I need to somehow prime the fuel pump and if so how (the lines did drain both ways when I changed the filter) ?

an 81 you say? i'm guessing you have an electric fuel pump.

get under the gas tank and look around for it, follow gas lines to motor, spray out. add sea foam to gas tank, clean out carb, replace fuel lines, clean out gas tank and you should be good to go.

your carb could not be sucking gas because its plugged. or a faulty fuel pump. around the housing it should be in a square enclosure with no bottem. Your best bet is to buy a haynes manual. best investment you could make.

Check the fuel lines at the filter. It could be that one or both of the hoses are broken or are sucking air.
