I just finished putting in a new engine(actually used engine pulled from a running car that i had as a spare unit)in my friends S13(using his intake, turbo, etc). Everything is plugged right and double checked (my car was standing next to his for comparsion ). The starter turns the engine and there's fuel (sparkplugs were wet), checked ignition coils, power transistor, cas, maf, etc and they all look good according to the reference tables in the manual but car doesn't start. Pulled ECU, code 55(everythingOK!?).Any ideas?

clean the AFM, do a ECU diagnostics, check your fuel pump, dropping resistor..

get a shop manual. it helps loads there is a whole section to starting problems etc.

It looks like this now, it seems like the car is getting to much fuel, cause when we released fuel pressure(pulled fuse for fuelpump while starting the car) started up for a few seconds and of course did(no more fuel cause fuse was out). When we put the fuse back in the car doesn't start at all.BTW i have the shop manual and did pretty much everything but nothi9ng worked, that's why i'm asking for ideas.

The car we're talking about is a 1992 S13 with CA18DET,just added this cause the thread has been moved from the CA section.

Hey slw240sx your problem seems a little bit different than mine, more related to the electrical circuit of the starter. So please don't hijack my thread, cause i still need tips for my problem which isn't related to any starter trouble.

I hate to be simplistic but it is more for my benefit so I can mentally see this, The motor that is in your car now, did you hear it run in it's original body?

Chezina, Check the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail, if it is blown out the diaphragm allows fuel to be drawn into the manifold. You can check this by removing the vac. hose to it and see if fuel runs out or drips out.

sorry to hijack you again, but i think the fuel pressure regulator is prob your problem also!

well Mad if that was for me, yes i personally saw this motor run, it wasnt running when i bought it however, but it would turn over! it had a wiring problem, i took care of tha parts that wernt good, i had it running with in days of buying it from the kid who didnt know what was wrong ! i ran it several times just to make shure it was good to go into my other car.. the car it came in was also a us 240 but a year newer, so im thinking maybe its wired slightly differnt or that one of the relays was blown or maybe i knocked loose a wire for the ground or hurt the starter itself!i wont know till i take a good look at it again, i was in a hurry to get out of the garage when i found it not starting ! im reading through my CA18det FSM i dont have a USDM 240 FSM though so im screwed there!

Yep, i heard it running! And i found the problem(stupid one), the alternator belt was a little bit to loose, just turned the adjustment screw a quarter turn to tighten the belt and erverything ok now. Car starts fine and engine is running like it should be.
