I did a quick search on this but I really didn't find any answers to my issue. If this is a repeat i'm sorry..
I just purchased a 1992 240sx SE 5-speed off a friend of mine. About 6 months ago he said he replaced the clutch with the autozone clutch. It was already pretty much toast and slipping horribly.
I limped it home and purchased the exeddy stage 1 clutch kit.
Never replaced a clutch before but I understand the idea of what's going on.. soo dropped the transmission out, pulled off the old clutch and pressure plate and had the flywheel turned down. Last night I bolted the clutch and pressure plate back up. I didn't have a torque wrench or the specifications, so I just guessed (yeah.. I know I was being dumb). It didn't seem like I was torquing it that much, and I just went until the fingers on the pressure plate started to bend down a little bit--I went until they were level.
Bolted the transmission back up and went to go test it out.
...didn't really get too far. With the clutch pedal completely disengaged, the clutch does not grab at all.
Just wanted to see what you guys thought it might be. I'm gussing that either (a) I torqued the bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel too much and it's not putting any pressure on the clutch, or (b) somethings screwed up with the fork and it's wedged too far toward the engine and is putting pressure on the pressure plate?
I've already checked the hydraulics and they seem to be working.. even if they weren't, i'd just expect the clutch to be grabbing all the time, then.
Thanks for your help guys!
*edit* I just thought of this, i don't even know if it would make sense: when I got the car the clutch was slippling REALLY bad.. and it grabbed all the way out on the pedal.. maybe the nut on the clutch pedal was adjusted so far out that now the clutch is perminantly engaged? is that even a possibility? because if that could be it, i'm going to run home on my lunch break and look at it.
