is it normal for the brake pads to feel really tight? i mean like if the car is neutral, it will roll like normal, but once i jack it up and I try spinning the wheel it does not budge, that is not right, correct?

there should be some resistance but not enough to keep u from turning the wheels by hand.

they should spin pretty easly.

yeah, i cant spin it at all no matter how much force I apply. I found the diy guide on rear brake pads on the forums and I realized that I took the entire assembly off and put the brake pads opposite to how the guide tells us to do it.

I took both bolts off and the caliper was hanging and I squeezed in the brake pads that way, however the guide says to take off the bottom one, and keep the top one loose enough so that you can "spin" the caliper, which I had no idea was possible. damn 240sx lol

make sure your ebrake is not on, your wheel will not spin with ebrake on

it doesn't matter if you take both bolts off or not, as long as the pad fits in correctly. i'm sure it's fine, you prob have the ebrake up or something stupid and didnt realize it, happens to the best of us. pads are hard to screw up. oh, and dont forget to check your fluid either...

i could be wrong but ima throw this in there....... your calipers may be grabbing (sticking) which wheels are hard to turn? any of them harder to turn than the others?

i was only going to replace both my rear brake pads, but after the difficulty with one I haven't touched the other, as I'm not sure if this is normal.

i've tried it in neutral, ebrake off etc. and the wheel will not spin when its jacked up, but the car does roll as normal when its sitting in neutral on teh ground. I don't want to drive it and end up burning my brakes or something. I'll take everything off when I get back from school and try it the way the NICo guide says to do it.

i had to manually smack and push it onto the disc, thus why its so tight now, lol should I just drive on it and see if it gets any better?

Pistons should retreat a littble bit, but that's not happening, so I'd say boots and pistons are old and not functioning properly.

I turned the piston all the way back, but the new pads were not giving me enough room in the middle ot slide over the disc comfortably. So I pushed it onto the disc, when I did it, the disc itself was tilted towards the caliper, giving the impression that the caliper was grabbing the disc really tight, while the rest of the disc was not level because of the force on one side.

I went ahead and mounted up the wheel and drove it around the block. Brakes got hot, and the wheel would not move once I jacked it up (in neutral, with parking off), I think I will rip everything apart again and this time follow the Nico s13 guide.

I have a 95' s14 btw

Something else that you might want to check which happenned on mine was that the inside of the rubber brake hose that goes to the caliper might have broken down or is breaking down. it actually will apply the brakes and cause the caliper to clamp on that side. when its really bad the wheel will actually squeal while driving because the pads are skimming the rotors. Just a thought.

have you tried bleeding the system?also make sure they're the right pads, i saw a thread on here a few weeks ago about someone with a 95 being sold the wrong pads from advance auto. they supposedly have the wrong part # listed. idk about other stores though.

I ripped it apart and put it back together according to the writeup on NICO and it seems like it is fine now.

I made the mistake of taking off the parking brake cable off the cylinder, it was a f***ing pain in the a** to put back onto the cylinder. Worst of all, I think I could've done it without taking it off.

I will do the other side tomorrow. thanks for hte input guys

BTW: if the car has a VLSD, and is jacked on one side, i'm pretty sure that will have something to do with not being able to spin the tire fully while in neutral (parking brake off) correct?
