change vin number on dash in CA

I got a new dash and it has a vin on it of course but id like to put my vin on it but here in CA and im sure other places its a "crime" to do it myself so i was wondering if anyone know where i have to go to have this done and what i need to do so? thanks in advance

i poped the old one off, riveted the origional on and called it good. no questions asked ever at the dmv, or inspection. im in new mexico though

Yes, it's a crime to do it yourself.

That being said, it's just held on by 2 rivets...

You could always call CHP and ask if you are really that worried.
