I'm contemplating buying a tubular manifold. not very expensive, maybe Megan since i've seen great results with it as far as durability goes. my power level is only ~225whp, so it's not a necessary mod. however, i need to change the gasket between the turbine and the manifold, and since it's so cheap, i want to change the manifold itself anyways and also install OEM Nissan gaskets (except perhaps a copper head to manifold gasket). will this change the sexy, bubbly exhaust note under boost for a chunk of power any day.

again, i ONLY want to know about the change in exhaust note. don't talk about which manifold is better, or which gaskets, or how you'd kill for that 10whp gain instead of having a car that you like the sound of, or whatever. a before and after sound clip(s) would be awesome if anyone is so endowed.

why would the exhuast note chage? It still has to go through the turbo and full exhuast system. I doubt youll hear much of a difference.

intake and exhaust manifolds often change the sound of the engine because they profoundly effect the resonance and scavenging parameters. maybe on turbo cars this effect is minimized, but this being my first turbo car, i wouldn't know. so i'd like somebody who has tried stock and a tubular (not peakboost; theirs is God and sounds badass) and knows what the two sound like. please and thanks.

Yes your exhaust note will change slightly. This is the first thing i noticed when i installed my tubular manifold. The exhaust note is not as deep as before, it sounds smoother and more refined with the new manifold.

not as deep because theres better exhaust flow from the mani. i would say something like from a rumble to a smooth hum or something along those lines. that goes for when you're driving also, the tone of the exhaust sounds a little higher and smoother, but still retaining that SR sound

Okay, so I needed to install the gasket, so i ended up buying one anyways since it wasn't expensive and i've seen them in my experience to be very robust. i didn't think i would like any other sound from the exhaust, but i have to say it's at least as good as the popping, burbling stock exhaust note. now it's very smooth - you don't hear "individual" cylinders firing, you hear as was said a smoother, more refined note, but it still gets nice and pissed in boost. overall i like the sound. i haven't had it on the dyno since i was at 7psi (now i'm at 12psi w/ i/c, new BOV, turbine outlet, and manifold), so i can't test gains, but i'm hoping to hit the dyno today or tomorrow and hit ~225whp. but as i said i'm not concerned with the 5-10hp possible gain from a manifold at this stage. i just want to hop on the dyno to make sure she's running right (if it's running right it will make good power and have good a/f ratio).

actually i live between tampa and orlando, but a lot closer to orlando. i use XAT for almost all of my 240 needs. they're even going to tune my Honda when it turns to the dark side in a few weeks. they're not the best, but they're pretty fair about most things and they generally do great work. and they have a dyno, and their tuner, Martin, is in a class all his own it seems.

I was going to say - Martin is the man.
