can the ds tensioner (the one that mates to upper front cover with the 2 nuts on thereaded studs) be changed in situ? no removal of vc's or anything?

any special precautions to preclude chain jump?

Yeah you can take it out. Its a little tight but its not bad..

Wes, thanks--are you saying you have actually done it this way?i don't want to go down this path if it's likely i have to pull the cover anyway because the 'arm' for the guide slips below where the tensioner can recontact it on install. or if the chain is likely to jump when tensioner removed.
