My redtop SR timing chain started to rattle this week. I don't see any loss in performance and idle is steady as a rock. It just rattles when I accelerate up to about 3000rpm. After checking to make sure it wasn't anything else (loose exhaust mani, etc...) I have decided to change the timing chain tensioner. I just wanted to make sure that I got it right. I can use a SR20DE upgraded tensioner and it simply bolts right in, correct? If that doesn't fix it I will remove the valve cover and remove the upper chain guide to see if that fixes it.

Anyone got any advice?

Upgraded sr20de chain tensioner? Is this a new tensioner? I just bought a tensioner about a month ago from my local dealership and am just waiting for my cylinder head to come back from the machine shop before I put it back together. Is there a new part number or something? I don't want to have the wrong one.

The original B13 SR20DE chain tensioners were found to have weaknesses in their oil flow capabilities. It looks like it will fit just fine.
