Sorry, guys, just have to let this out, see if any of you feel my pain....
Oh by the way, this is my first new thread, WOOHOO!
But anyways, This past weekend i decided to tackle that stupid broken chain guide noise. The Nissan techs at work (I sell cars for Nissan) said its the guides, guarunteed. So i spent the money and got the two lower guides, some slicone sealant, and photocopied the FSM, along with my Chilton's.
Now mind you, i know my way around the underside of a hood, but the most extensive work I had ever done, besides an oil change, or like starter/alternator replacements, was pulling that valve cover off to pull that top guide (which by the way, wasnt it).
So i tear into it. 12 hours later, and many repetitive uses of EVERY swear word in the book, I finally get the front of the engine and bay torn apart, and the front cover off enough to see the guides (between Eibach Sportlines, and jackstands, and gaining 30 pounds, i was not about to drop that oil pan).
But guess what... that stupid lower guide was fine! Unbroken! So i looked at the lower of the two upper guides (which can both be removed) and there were rubbing marks on it. I took it off and then continued to re-use every word in the book again. It was that stupid guide all the way along! 15 hours worth of total work, all for a little 3 hour easy job!!
Sorry about the length guys, but my advice to anyone reading this: Before going to as much work as i did, remove the top two guides first, and cross your fingers!
Upside: Only cost me about $6 worth of Nissan sealant, and im going to pay the techs the $70 to re-seal my whole oil pan, and fine-tune my timing (i got it close enough).
WHEW.....now its time for a beer! Anyone?
