I just called Joe but he wasn't in. I talked to a guy named Leon. He had at his disposal a parts list for the job. This is what he emailed me.

I asked him to email me his list because the list I was reading off of had some part numbers that he couldn't find. It also listed 2 timing chains. I was reading off of this one. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=164335

This is what it said:1x 13510-60U00 - front cover seal- 2x 13270-60U00 - valve cover gaskets (if valve cover is removed)- 4x 11051-60U04 - cam end seals (if the valve cover is removed)- 1x 13091-60U01 - guide (tension RH)- 1x 13091-60U11 - guide (tension LH)- 1x 13070-60U03 - chain tensioner (RH)- 1x 13070-60U12 - chain tensioner (LH)- 2x 13085-60U01 - chain guide (tensioner guide?)- 2x 13085-60U11 - chain guide- 2x 13094-60U00 - guide bolts- 2x 01121-04711 - guide bolts- 4x 13075-60U02 - tensioner bolts- 1x 13079-60U01 - tensioner gasket (LH)- 1x 15041-60U00 - oil pump chain (highly recommended)- 1x 15073-60U00 - oil pump chain guide- 1x 15073-60U10 - oil pump chain guide- 1x 15072-60U00 - bracket oil pump- 1x 15044-60U00 - crank/oil sprocket- 1x 15043-60U00 - crank/timing sprocket- 2x 13021-60U00 - crank/cam sprockets (if warranted)- 2x 13028-60U00 - timing chains (if warranted)

Then, after more searching, I found a list that said:2x 01121-04711 - bolts for new guides 4x 11051-60U04 - cam end seals 2x 13021-60U00 - crank/cam sprockets 2x 13028-60U00 - timing chains 1x 13070-60U03 - chain tensioner(RH) 1x 13070-60U12 - chain tensioner(LH) 4x 13075-60U02 - tensioner bolts 1x 13079-60U01 - tensioner gasket(LH) 2x 13085-60U01 - chain guide <----------------!2x 13085-60U11 - chain guide <----------------!1x 13091-60U01 - guide(tension RH) 1x 13091-60U11 - guide(tension LH) 2x 13094-60U00 - guide bolts 1x 13510-60U00 - front cover seal 1x 15041-60U00 - oil pump chain 1x 15043-60U00 - crank/timing sprocket 1x 15044-60U00 - crank/oil sprocket 1x 15072-60U00 - bracket oil pump 1x 15073-60U00 - oil pump chain guide 1x 15073-60U10 - oil pump chain guide 2x 13270-60U00 - valve cover gaskets

^^zerothread?id=13851

Which is the one that I should go by? I know I need the valve covers resealed as well. I've read some members pay less than $350 for their parts. Leon quoted me $562 and change. Which ones are the parts that I absolutely need? I'd ask DAEDALUS but I haven't seen a recent post from him.

Sorry to be a bother, but I'm not sure on what to do and I'd hate to get the wrong parts and be stuck with them.

I just added up the amount for the list that Leon sent and I got $435.43. The website says that these two parts can't be found:13075-60U02 & 13079-60U01. My shopping cart total is $401.01 without those two parts. Why do I keep getting different totals?

The list that was posted by PalmerWMD gave me a shopping cart total of $564.17 and had a bunch of parts that said "Part not found".

My Q has 90k+ (like 90,3something. Can't remember at the moment). The engine runs fairly well. Which of these parts lists will I be needing? Anyone that's done this recently, please help.

Look at their website under specialty kits for the q45.....they list a complete chain guide kit and price.

I totally looked for that. I only found the Summer kit. I'll look again. Don't know why I couldn't find it.

*Edit*

Ok. Now, I found it. It's listed at $429.37. Totally different price than what Leon quoted me. It said everything I need is included in the kit, but it doesn't give a description of the kit's contents. If I could get a complete list of what's in that kit on the website, I'd be more at ease. There's so much to process about the parts I'm getting frazzled. Plus the thought of the work looming over my head. Ugh. I wish my car was a '93, but looked exactly the way it does now. I've never been that lucky.

It has never been verified irrefutably that a 1993 ever came with the new guides on this board. One did have them, but the second owner didn't know if they were original or had been replaced.

No 1994 and later has ever had the non-metal backed guides.

The only advice I have is that you typically don't replace the timing chains unless it's a very high mileage car, or they have been damaged by guide destruction. The part numbers will change from time to time - so that's part of what you're getting with invalid part numbers I bet.

Here's the parts list from my T3 invoice in 2003:

13070-60U03 Chain Tensioner (1)13070-60U12 Chain Tensioner (1)13075-60U02 Tensioner Bolt (4)13079-60U01 Pump Gasket (1)13085-60U01 Chain Guide (2)13085-60U11 Chain Guide (2)13091-60U11 Chain Guide (1)13094-60U00 Tensioner Bolt (2)13510-60U00 Front Crank Seal (1)15041-60U00 Oil Pump Chain (1)15073-60U00 Chain Guide (1)15073-60U00 Chain Guide (1)15073-60U10 Chain Guide (1)

The quantity is listed in "( )"

I'd wish for a 94, but I don't like the grille. I'm a belt buckle fan.

Thanks Heath. I was wondering about the invalid parts. I didn't see anything on your list about valve covers. How much did you spend on parts? Your list seems to be much lighter than the other lists I saw. I'll crunch the numbers on these. Thanks for the info.

The valve covers don't have gaskets, they're sealed with RTV. There are some "half moon" rubber gaskets that fit into the head at the cams, but I'm not sure why they weren't on the list... maybe I bought them separately. There are also some rubber o-rings that fit where the rocker covers bolt on to the head, but T3 just covered them with a layer of RTV vs. replacing them.

The parts prices (that I didn't include) are probably retail at that time, since I bought them from T3. They will let you bring your own parts and pay a higher labor rate, but I just opted to buy my parts from them... it works out about the same. Most if not all shops make their profit off of a combination of parts mark-up plus the labor charge.

I have never heard of a failed chain or chain guides on the 97+ - only one instance on the 94+

Probably a lifter or valve noise... hard to say without hearing it.

With no maintenance history, just WAG are available.

Timing chain guides just not an issure unless OCI abused to the extreme.

Please give a maintenance history and more details about the symptoms.
