Just had my guides done by squeefoo...a gentleman and a scholar...the man needs no torque wrench...he's just got the touch. Got the parts from Joe, and he was a big help too! Believe it or not, after 96k...they looked brand new....but who wants to take that risk! It's a Chicago car with lots of freeway driving...go fiqure! We took some pics for you all, the replacement tensioner bolts look a little wierd...but they work. Hauled buns all the way home and the engine just purred. Look for squeefoo's next few posts. It's a testament to changing your oil religiously(I use Mobil One). Anyways...hats off to squeefoo for tackling his fourth chain guide job in zero degree weather...if the heater had gone on us...you'd all be reading our obits..."they died with a frozen 5mm hex socket in one hand and a tube of liquid gasket in the other"!!! Thanks again squeefoo!!!

I second that! Squee did mine last December- it must be his annual holiday chain guide festival! Good conversation, lots of laughs, a heated garage and air tools. What more could you ask for . Seriously, thanks again Squee, it was huge to have your expertise on the car, not to mention it saved my Q front self destruction due to broken guides. What a cool NICO bro! You are a testament to all that is so great about this website.

Although I had2 Qs and did plenty of wrenching on them before finding NICO, the knowledge I've gained here has saved me literally thousands of dollars and boatloads of time! Thanks to all who have shared on the site !

Maybe I should change my NICO Name to Byron North

This is a closeup of the new/ updated bolts which hold down the new guides, you can see also in the above pic that the new bolt has a lip further out which helps hold the chain in place if not in tension.

I've never used these bolts before, always ground off the lip on the old bolts which sits in the middle of the chain if reused ! Yikes!

Yeah, the last engine that Wes did a chain job on looked like it had been nuked with a grease bomb.

Speaking of which, I cleaned up the whole engine compartment... nice and shiny now! I think it should stay that way for about 3.5 minutes given the weather we have had.

Locknut has used only Mobil 1 since 50K W/97K now... just needs plenum hoses, TB cleaning, EGR clean, & maybe det sensors.

BTW: Blizzaks are very grippy

A great testament to frequent synthetic oil changes.

And a great first post.

Way to go, Squee!

"maybe det sensors"..........I like that term better than knock sensors. It better portrays what happens .......detonation of the rod bearings.

Agreed - just makes them sound much more important than "knock sensors".
