Well ..... this feeling is familiar. Driving down the road, just got off work - 2 blocks away from home nice night at 12:00+ A.M. - windows down - music blaring - nice tone from the exhaust - gas pressed - speed decelerates? ... press gas again - still decelerating. I watch in agony as the R.P.M. gauge slowly falls towards 0. I'm coasting now. HICAS light comes on, check engine light comes on since I now have the car in the on position but not running. I had an Integra once when the belt snapped - and this was exactly the same thing. I've invested alot of money in this car and this is BS. Depending on the damage, I just might leave 240's alone. (My GF's won't start either, I thought I have a gold mine 240 but ... =( After taking off the valve cover to see a broken chain, anything else I should I check besides pistons, and valves ...? Thanks for reading, I'm just a little depressed right now.

Tough break.. I guess here's the motivational push you need to purchase that SR20 :D

=) If I had an SR20, I'm throw it in - but I'm not jocking the SR20 bandwagon. I'd actually prefer KA-T, which I was/am still planning on going. More economical for a decent amount of power IMO.

Sorry to hear. So rare for a chain to break unless a guide fails--check them to see if they're intact or not. How many miles on the car?

I have a similar sound on startup and it's been worrying me. This is the second KA24DE I've read about on this forum with a snapped chain (Trueslide has the other).

Drift, are you sure it was the timing chain? No possibility something else failed?

Shame it was a HICAS car, too...

As long as the car didn't explode he can just replace the chain, or if it did some serious damage, engine for a few hundred bucks. He should still be able to keep the car :D

yeah, i'm sure in the worst case scenario (sp) you could pick up someone's KA who just did a swap for cheap. About this noise at startup. it sounds like a kind of rattle at startup for maybe a second or two and only does it when the engine is cold? so that's the timing chain? My car does that too, I decided to let it be since I don't want to spend a dime on my motor as I am saving all my money so I can pay for my ticket to hop on the sr20 bandwagon. I heard that bandwagon goes pretty fast. anyways, I would like to hear more info on this rattle at start and if it is nothing or if it means my chain is gonna go soon. I suppose I should search, but I'm feeling lazy and we're all talking about it here anyways.
