Does anyone here have experience with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software on either Linux or Windows? I am particularly interested in running some wind tunnel simulations.

you have some Flotran licences for us to play around with?

is Flotran any good at simulating airflow around a car body, looked through their website and did't find anything about automotive applications.

LOL

nomukn- you have to realize ho wmuch this **** costs... I don't think many people have ever used this software that would be able to freely help you (without money) Nor will you ever have acces to a computer running Flotran (without mega money)

Is there any CFD software out there that will run on a home computer?> Perhaps with linux but the quality won't be tooo good and it will take a while to learn how to use and you will have to have a CAD program too.

AnsysFlotran will work fine on your average windows desktop, it will just take weeks to arrive upon a solution.

if a 30,000 node solid-deformation type analysis takes about 10 minutes on an XP system, just imagine even meshing a highly detailed car exterior as well as all of the transient fluid particles.

thus, it is completely possible, just cost and time-prohibitive.

better off going to school for engineering and getting to use an educational licence as much as you want. although, i doubt most schools even have CFD accessible to undergrads. graduate school, here we come.

well that sux, i take it there aren't any good open source CFD packages?

(my Cray is busy at the moment :D but i do have an Madison box at my disposal, i wouldn't mind letting it crunch some codes for a few weeks)

haha open source, no. software that has licences that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars isnt going to be very free or open source.

youve got these, but none of them do what you need, they are very specific programs designed seemingly for government workers and researchers.
