As I was looking to trade in for an M35x, the dealer stated that it only costs around $900 to certify one. I have a few questions:

1. Why is so much cheaper to certify this car, most others charge $2000+2. Given the chance would you get the car certified.

Thanks for all your help.

I was told $900 was the COST to do it. It's basically tied to the 45,000 or 60,000 mile maintenance schedule which usually runs in the neighborhhod of $1,000. The CPO process is a strict 100+ point maintenance deal that dealers have to follow in order to call a car certified....AT least that's what I was told.

The $2,000 figure sounds like retail to me or trying to make the extra buck. If it includes the Elite Wrap along with CPO then that is about right. I paid $1,800 for both.

Depending on the mileage and condition of the car, the cost of certification may be as little as for the dealer to provide a CPO warranty. In the worst case, with worn out tires and brake and a thrashed interior, dealer's cost to bring the car to CPO standard will be significantly higher. But the bottom line is that dealer's cost to replace brake/tires, etc. is significantly lower than retail price.

If I have the option and the brake/tires, etc. looks good on the car, I would ask that the $900 be applied as a discount toward an Elite Extended Warranty because the CPO warranty apparently do not cover major electronic items.
