Hello Guys...

Another newbie question here..

Can anybody tell m the difference between ceramic and metallic tinting?

Will they affect the GPS nav system?

Which one is better?

If anyone can post a picture of each that'd be great..!

The ceramic tint is originaly from Germany. They don't have metals and dyes in it. Basicaly it gives you the same heat protection like theordinary metal ones w/o the shiny dark look. Is that make any sense?

If you still not sure I'll try differently just let me know.

Not sure about ceramic (that's first time I've heard of it), but titanium or any other film that contains metal particles is very likely to interfere with with the nav system and, therefore, should be avoided if you plan on using one that relies on GPS. I am not a nav expert but I think all auto nav systems in N. America rely on GPS technology (the Russians are working on a different standard).

That is the reason the Germans came up with the idea. No metal in there. No interfear.

Neat product, thanks for info! Got my attention, so I had to look it up.

Seems more practical for residential use though unless they can make it free of any distortion to use on the windshields legally. Most people, I think, also like tint for privacy reasons. I sure do - I have 18% film in front and 8% in the back. Gives the car a little bit of visual edge too. Take a close look at the majority of ad photos in the car mags and you'll see that they sport pretty dark tint all around including windshields.

That's right they started with residental also but they went into the automotive in no time in Europe. They actually have darker also, only way you can tell is it's not shinny at all.

Get the Huper Optik - it's WELL worth it.

Superior heat rejection - the days of dark tint are over.

No, you really don't. You have two more more options available: you can go with a regular old-school film or upgrade to a high-performance non-metallic if you like the dark look or can't afford ceramic. I am also not quite convinced that you need ceramic film in GTA as much as you would in the south. A couple of things to consider and keep in mind:

1. Do NOT use ammonia-based sprays (Windex, etc) - water only!2. Go with a hi-po film if you park outdoors/in the sun a lot.3. Choose a reputable shop that is likely to be around in a few years should something go wrong (lifetime warranty won't help you if they are no longer in biz).

Good luck and post some pix when done! BTW, you never mentioned what kind of car you are driving or looking to buy.

thanks a lot mask0425,

Some people on the forum from Toronto area suggest me going to Audio Heaven (http://www.audioheaven.ca/tints.html) ..seems like a lot of people got the job done there and claim that their Radio/GPS weren't affected after the having the windows tinted.....thanks again:)

I signed the deal last Saturday for a 04 G35 Coupne black/black w/ Nav system, i am so excited to be part of the Nico family.. lol

dont know where gps receiver is in your car, but since most of the car is metal, doesnt seem like a little bit in the tint woukd affect nav..i have aftermarket gps receiver and can put it anywhere (seat, floor..it sometimes falls after a vigorous corner) and it still gets great reception
