i've seen custom made gauge pods that fit 3 52mm gauges where the center vent goes. does anyone make these?

Goomba, have you had any problems with the paint chipping? I've been trying to find a black piece of plexiglass for a similar use but have had a hard time :(

do you just use self tapping screws and screw it into right into the dash?

yeah it does look pretty good. I was gonna do that for a long while, but I just dont think its worth it over doing the A-Pillar. People say the A-Pillar attracts too much attention, but really those right there are still in plain view... you can even see them driving behind someone... eh.. plus you gotta give up the vents. Not worth it.

I just got mine made out of stainless at a local machine shop. I removed the center vents and the trim piece around them and had the shop trace it and cut out the panel with a plasma cutter. I also had them make a second panel to fit behind the dash, just wider and longer by 3/4", so I have something to bolt the front panel into. The front panel makes a perfect fit in the dash and I drilled four holes to bolt it all together. The shop charged me $30. Looks pretty sweet, but don't have any pics handy.

what was the diameter of the holes you had cut? what size gauges did you use? did you have holes cut in the second piece of steel for the signal lines/ wires to run through? is there enough room between the two pieces of metal for the depth of the gauges?

Spitz- I wish I had a pic man! I will try to get one later today of mine. But the flat peice of aluminum wdoes work fine and does look good casue you can paint it however you like. It will colst MAYBE $5-6 if you have/borrow a dremel.

3-52mm gauges fit perfectly in the center and are easy to see from the D-seat...

go to a local hobby store and ask them... i think u might be able to use lexan paint. its used to paint lexan rc car bodies. if that doesnt work im sure they will know what u could use.

I used three 52mm gauges and I had holes cut in the second panel that fits behind the dash. The gauges fit very tight and with the second panel there is absolutely no vibration or rattles, plus I didn't have to drill holes in my dash which is why I went with the second panel.

has anyone done anything like that exept with the gauges angled more toward the driver i think that wouldnt be to hard to do if you can find the right sized tube. i dunno if they make lexan tube but if they do you could angle the bottom of the tube to the flat plate and join it using welll shyet i cant remember the stuff we used to bond lexan to other pieces when i worked at that machine shop.

tm_kickz - are you referring to my car? If so, Its not about looks, its about knowing whats going on with the car. Its not a beauty pageant.

I used some ABS plastic from a stereo shop and made it a perfect fit for my center vent. I'm using 3 Autometer gauges and instead of having screws to hold the pod/panel in, I am using the far outside gauges mounts, I just bent them enough to go behind the dash and not just the panel. Reached up behind, tightened down the nuts, and it pulled itself in really nice. Its very clean because its a perfect fit (ooo) like that and there are no screws. The black abs (the stuff they make cd player install kits from) makes it look like it belongs.

not doesnt hit anything or get in the way. my cd deck can even fold down for a new cd. i had to find something that a gauge would go in then i used that as the mold. made bondo cylinders then bondoed them together. then a lot of sanding.

little time consuming but it looks good and its not as suspecting in a race...
