Sorry, topic should be to Small on the new rims...my hub is to big for them. Got it backwards.

Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so, what did you do about it?

I bought a set of Modo MD1's wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza's 245/35/ZR-19's and once i got them and cleaned them up(seller told me ahead of time they weren't cleaned), I put the front two on to see how they looked.

I had noticed when trying to put them on they weren't seeded as well as stock ones, but I just thought, They aren't stock so they aren't going to fit as well. So I just dismissed it and didn't think anything of it......until I pulled out of my driveway to see how they ran. They were wobbly as HELL. Scared the s*** out of me and my buddy in the car. We went about 100 yards turned around and immediately pulled back in the drive way to look and see what the problem was. Pulled the rim off and after about 30 mins of looking at the damn things, figured out the center bore on the rims are 2mm to small(Rims came off an Acura TL '07 w/ a center bore of 64.1 and Coupes are 66.1). After hours of researching and figuring this out(the actual size difference), I was trying to see if anyone has shaved down the center bore of a rim. Yea, yea, I know about structural integrity but the rim seems to have an "insert" for different size hubs and does not seem to be truly connected to the rim.

So, what i'm asking is: 1. Can the center bore "insert" be taken out?(or is it really an insert?)2. Can it be easily shaved down with a drimel?(numerous sites had people just shaving it down)3. How much would it cost at a shop to get 2mm's of metal shaved off if 1 or 2 isn't feasible?4. How the HELL do you read the code on the back of a rim to find out the size of the center bore to know from the get go if the SoB will fit on your car?!?!

Otherwise the rims look AWESOME on my car and I'm really hoping I don't have to sell them cause I got a great deal on them.

Oh, and I'm going to have to replace the lug bolts cause we stripped them tightening the piss out of the lugs trying to get the rim on there tight....didn't notice at the time the gap between the rim and brake caliber.

Im confused...

The hub of the car is 66.1 this I know...

The hub is too small on the wheel? Its probably because there is a hub-ring glued in there that adapted it to the previous owner's hub...

It looks something like that and they can be plastic or metal... and they are removable (they may be glued in but just try n rip em out..

Dremeling a wheel is something you SHOULD NOT DO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Heres some info on hubcentric rings.. http://www.prestigewheel.com/C...7.pdf

Yes, the RIM hub is to SMALL for the stock car hub(caps is for me, not you, i keep getting them screwed up)

I was saying dremel it out because like you said, it seems to be ring like the one you posted. And if that's the case WONDERFUL. I'll yank the thing out and buy a new made for my car.....but still got to pop the lug bolts out and replace those. Luckily dads done it a few times and he's getting his buddy who has worked at Nissan for the past 10 years to come over and help.

Thanks a bunch LBC!!

Its def not too small, theres gotta be a hub ring in there... dont dremel it out because it will be uneven and then you wont be able put the proper hub ring in.

If you call a few local shops and see if they sell hub rings (try a place that sells wheels etc) they will remove the old rings n replace them for you.

Never overtighten lug nuts... 80lbs I think is what they should be torqued to... too loose and the wheels will fall off, too tight and you will crack a rim. If something doesnt seem right, bring it to a shop, dont be fooling around with lugnuts!

Yea I know about not torquing lug nuts to much but my buddy was the one putting the nuts on while I was cleaning the old rims for storage.....I went over there after he said he was done to make sure they were good and tight, they had to be torqued to 100lb's or more. But he said it never bit like it's suppose to when you are putting tires on normally.

I checked all the new rims and none of them were cracked/bent or anything like that after the "mishap".

I'm going by Goodyear after work to see if they will have the rings(that's what I meant not the actual hub). I think it's going to be this size(HR66-6415 66.06mm/2.600 64.15mm/2.525) coming from the site you linked me but not sure how other company's will use the same way of measurement(you would hope....but never know)

Goodyear may not have it, id try more of a custom car shop... I think my hub rings are 73.1-66.1 but im not sure...

Tire rack has those wheels for sale, you may want to just give them a call and ask what the bore is on the wheel, and ask if they sell hub rings that fit just to be sure.

Yea, I've called 4 different tire places and all of them say they have to order it. And if that's the case, I'm going to get it from tirerack since they are one of the only ones that have the rims for sell.

I'm not sure about the inner bore size of the rim, but I know the coupes outer bore is 66.1mm. Tirerack should be able to tell me though.

Thanks again for all the help LBC

Here are some pics of the Hubcentric ring. And when you see it, you might understand why I said dremel it away......

And here is a pic of the rims I bought.

I still dont understand why you would use a dremel... use pliers and pull it out, hit it with a rubber mallot a bit if its stuck.

I didn't know at the time they could be removed until you and some others said they can be knocked out, so dremel seemed easiest solution....but def not going to use it.

I'm going to pull them off tonight, i tried this morning before going to work and it didn't happend. They are sealed on there good and tight.

Called tirerack about the size and they said 79.5mm(3.13") which is close to what the tape measure has before really trying to measure it out. Just hoping I can get a hubcentric ring in before the weekend and try it out.....tempted to put them on w/o the ring and see how it rides but I really don't want to screw anything else up, so I guess I'm going to have to wait

Take off the center cap and use some PB blaster. Then try knocking it out.

I got them out last night after work. Just popped the center cap off and knocked them out with a screwdriver and mallet and came out fine.....only ones that gave me a problem were the front ones that had rubbed against my hub but eventually got them off.

We are replacing the studs today after I get off work but probably won't be able to put on the new rims until the new hubcentric rings come in Mon or Tues.

Hopefully there isn't anything special about taking the brake caliber and rotor off but doesn't seem like it. Just 2 bolts
