it just clips into place so take a screw driver and carfully pop it out. if it is a manual it will not completly come out unless you remove the the shifter/ or shifter boot. you will not need to do this. just pull it up and let it hang to the side.

for my manual i just grabbed the trim by the boot and it lifted right out, theres like 6 snaps that hold it in place, but like krazy said if you want it off completely youll have to take off your shift knob

Take my shift knob off--I really should have clarified that.

oh, did you try laying a towel on it, then grab the ends and twist them up real tight so the towel is wrapped around the knob and the rest is twisted together, then take some pliers and twist that sum*****, it nearly broke my wrist but it worked for me

No. I was trying to be safe with it cuz I really needed to keep it in good shape until I got my Nismo shifter. But its finally ***** me off to the point where I couldn't care less...

if you use the plyers and grip the towel where its twisted it shouldnt damage the shifter at all, just make sure that the towel is around the shifter and the rest is twisted up so its hanging away from the knob
