Has anyone else taken apart their center console?

I was giving it a nice clean and wanted to take it out because I plan to wrap it in Carbon. I was amazed that its basically just a bunch of little pieces that just pop out.

Look for yourself!

is that the shifter housing to the far right? I'm thinking of putting a shift boot on my automatic shifter. A tutorial on how you disassembled the shifter housing would be very helpful.

Ok, I can take a few pictures and show you guys.

It's actually REALLY easy though. I was expecting it to be difficult. All you need to do is get a little screw driver (standard) and shove it under the shifter piece that overlaps on the cup holders. If that doesn't make sense I'll post pictures.

But once you get that piece up the rest of them just pop right up as well. It's easy to dissemble and easy to put back together!

I took mine apart to clean, and to see if it was going to be easy to wrap in CF (and it is!). I will be doing it shortly!

Ok I will have some pictures up by Sunday because I work all day tomorrow and won't have time to do it.

On my way to work today my Drive + Play (iPod interface thing) wasn't working because I forgot to plug the 12v socket back in. I pulled over, took it apart, and had it plugged back in within a couple mins. Thats how easy it is! :D

Anyways, pictures will not include the Carbon wrap because I don't have the wrap and tack spray yet. :/ Oh, and I am trying to figure out what would look better.. Matte Black wrapped or Carbon wrapped..

I would LOVE to do the entire dash (not in Carbon) so I'm considering Matte Black also.. any suggestions?

i've pulled those peices off to clean before. after a few years, cumbs and coffe stains get gross in the little ridges in there. Brought em to my sink, used soapy water and cleaned them like new. however, there is a squak in there that I can't get rid of. somewhere under the arm rest..when i press my elbow down, it sqeaks everytime..ahrg

I know this is an old post, but did you ever end up covering your dash with any vinyl? I need to take apart my dash soon to clean out my blower motor due to a mouse issue, and I figure while I do it I would like to wrap the console pieces in CF wrap but im not sure how much to order to cover all the silver pieces and the center console face plate.

When can we expect the DIY on this? I like your work with LED lighting in and around the Versa.

for those who wanted the teardown photos:
start by removing the sylver bezel around the shifter. Start by the middle, push in and pull up. Work your way around the bezel until if comes out.

Image

Once the bezel is out, slide the vinyl shifter boot out and pull the plastic piece up. All the pieces come out this way. The hardest piece to removed is the one with the lighter. Simply pull the connections apart. Image

The armrest is held in place by two torx screws and three 14mm nuts. Here is a picture of the torx screws in question. Make sure that when the piece is put back in place, you use the two guides on the sides of the torx screws in order to sit the piece correctly.

Image

Here is a shot of the 14mm nut that is to the right of the hand break. There is also a grey connection that you simply push down at the little tab and slide out. By the way, all that orance muck is spilled salsa that forced me to do the tear down. I don't want to drive around town in a stinky car. Don't forget to disconnnect the grey connection or you might rip this connection. I have no idea what this connection is for. I looked under the armrest and the grey connection leads to a small plastic piece color black. If anyone has any idea what this connection is for please enlighten us.

Image

The back cubby hole of the arm rest is also just held in place by pressure. grab a flat head screwdriven and work your way around the back piece and it should pop out. You will see the two 14mm nuts that hold the armrest in place. Once these two are unscrewed, the whole armrest comes out.

Finally, here is the armrest out of the car.

I grabbed some carpet cleaner, brush, soapy water, and cleaned all that muck away. I soaked the platic pieces and the armrest with Armor All and put the pieces back in place. Hope this helps someone. Nuff Said!
