Well I did this because of the ubiquitous cell phone mounts of the early 90's always went threw the center console or the old disc changer and it looked like $h1t. first picture is a example of condition. works for me!

It's actually a type of contact material. I was using it on the job looked like it would work well and .......

Mine has the cell phone base still in it - how does that entire puece come out? Is it glued? clipped? pinned.. etc? I want to get mine out to recover.

Its held in by some adhesive. You should be able to easily peel it out.

I ran to the fabric store and bought E6000 textile glue and some flat black vinyl. I threw it together in a couple minutes. Its not great, but better than before. Looked like the last owner had a dog or something.

For those who aren't as good with arts and crafts projects... that mat is relatively inexpensive - or at least it was when I bought one back in '02. I would be sure to seal up the holes in the actual center console. If you dump a drink in there, having a direct path to the airbag computer isn't desirable.

I dont drink soda in the car. Thats another good reason why!
