My '08 Rogue has 10,637 miles on it as of today. I started to hear this crackling and plastic rubbing sound from my center console about 400 milles ago, and it's driving me nuts! I hear it when I'm cornering or when I go over a few bumps on the road. I just took my car for an oil change at the dealer ($33 at 3pm) and told them about the problem. They told me that in order to have it checked, I needed to get there earlier and leave the car there for the day

Has anyone else had this problem?

I hate noises inside the car when I'm driving and I can hear it even when the radio is on!

Any suggestions?

There was a Technical Service Bulletin issued for squeaking noises from the shifter bezel/trim. You can find it in the Official Rogue FAQ under "Facts => Summary of Technical Service Bulletins'.

Has anyone got this service for their 2009 rogue?

(I saw the TSB for 2008 Rogue). Mine has about 19000km and the noise started last week and driving me crazy!

I ended up fixing it the shifter bezel creak myself using pieces of carefully applied tape. It's the same procedure as listed in the TSB.

There is also a secondary source of noise from the front seat buckles. There is a mounting/pivot point where the buckle attaches to the seat frame. A little bit of carefully applied lube should work. Just be sure not to get it inside the buckle mechanism.

Phil, I've been getting more aggrevated by the day due to a squeek that's been developing for several weeks and it sounded like it was coming from my driver's seat.

This actually made my wife laugh her a** off because I previously owned a cheap Saturn Ion with a super squeeky seat, and actually most of the car squeeked in one way or another. So I bought a Nissan to get out of that hell hole and all of a sudden the squeek reappeared in my Rogue, I was so dissappointed!

But looking in to it today I isolated it to the seatbelt. I'm going to try lubing the anchor point tonight to see if that eliminates it as you suggest, although I was worried that the squeek was coming from inside the seat belt itself.

I hope you're right about the source, thanks so much for pointing this out!

Nissan really does not recommend lubing any seat belt components. It's especially important not to get any oil on the webbing and the buckle itself.

If you are going to do this, use a light spray oil with a plastic straw applicator and place a rag below (on the carpet) and on the edge of the seat to avoid staining. Another option is dry graphite lube, but I find it somewhat messy as it gets everywhere.

Another trick I've heard of is to use talcum powder. But the white powder on a black interior and the baby smell turns me off.

Hey Philip,New to the forum. Extremely informative. Question on the creaks from the shifter bezel. How do you remove from console to apply tape. Love to stop those creaking noises. Thanks,Tony

I would like to know too where to apply the tape. The creaking noise is driving nuts going over speed bumps and cornering.

There is a Nissan Tech Bulletin for 2008 models with console squeaks. For the '09's and up, the noise reducing tape should already be there from the factory:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Ro...1.pdf

The shifter bezel/finisher simply clips into place. Use a flat bladed tool (scraper or thin pry bar) and insert between the finisher and console and pry to remove it. Be careful not to scratch the plastic. You can use a soft cloth or wrap with a layer of electrical tape around the tool.

The tech bulletin describes how to apply the 'fuzzy', noise reducing tape. Cloth sports tape (ie. hockey tape) would also work. The point is to insulate the 2 plastic pieces from each other.

If you are at all squeamish about doing this, take it to the dealer. It's covered under warranty for 2008 models (assuming you still have the original warranty left).

Thank you so much! My rogue sl 2009, has started making the same squeaky noise! Driving me bananas! It's also coming from the console! I was hoping it wasn't a blown speaker, but investigated sound, and yep console! Was gonna chalk it up to cold weather on plastic, but thank god I looked here, instead of just putting up with it! Thanks again guys!
