Center Console Differences

Does anyone know what changes were made to the center console between years? or between models?

The reason I ask is that I have a 2005 S model, and recently picked up the OEM center console DVD player. While attempting the install, I got all the console taken apart, found the wiring harness, etc. But, when it came time to attach the screen to the center console/armrest section, without cutting parts of it away, there was no way I can get the new hinged lid on. If I looked carefully, it is possible to line up 3 of the holes on the hinge, with 3 of the holes on the console itself, but it would require cutting some of the plastic away for the hinge to clear the side of the console.

In my research I found that there was a change to the console in 2006, but I can't find exactly what that change was. I saw some consoles that had a clamshell type lid, but also found another version that is hinged to the rear, instead of the side. Unfortunately I have been completely unable to find any installation instructions for the console DVD player, which would probably be helpful as it may explain how to get the new lid attached.
