i have a 93q, built 11/92. i called up everything infiniti to order a center bearing and whatever else i would need and was told that this is not a separate part, the d-shaft comes with it and as one. is this right? i was under the impression it was a separate part? at any rate, i'm 1/2 way through the driveshaft r&r. got the mtr mnts and transmission mnts replaced 2 weeks ago. smooth as butter at idle, pretty smooth at hwy speeds, and a noticeable improvement all around, but still a lingering vibration between 35 and 45 mph. looking forward to knocking it off the list and hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from there. any clue what i need or don't need to address the center bearing? thanks. randy

wow. joe confirmed it--93 and earlier can not replace just the center bearing, it's the whole driveshaft assy or bust. wes-the number you have is the correct number for a center bearing kit ($104 fyi for anyone interested) but it is specifically for 94-96. randy

The bearing is pressed on the same way as it is on the 94, so i dont see why you couldnt replace it???

I had thought that 90-96 driveshafts were interchangable. Only thing different on a driveshaft is whether or not you have TCS. Guess I am wrong.

The 90-93(?) driveshaft had a smaller center bearing... they were upgraded later. When you order a new replacement shaft you also have to replace the center carrier bracket. So the new driveshaft sold for the entire series was originally the 94-96 design...

Good to know. I have the driveshaft off the car right now and I'm weighing my options. I'll probably just bolt it back up and wait for the bearing to start going out, then look for an aftermarket equivalent. I've already booked about $3k for deferred long-term items for the summer. Thanks for the info.

But you might not be able to put a non-TCS driveshaft on a TCS... and expect the TCS to keep working. I bet the TCS driveshaft has some magnetic pickups on it like ABS does on the wheels.

TCS or plain: all done on Diff output [dual pickups] [TCS] or single input pickup [plain]-------thus the difference in drive shaft lengths.

This from TexasOil some time in the last year:"Replacement center supports (bearing included) for The Q45 (and all other Nissan, volve, etc cars are available at low cost from PowerTrainIndustries.comQ45 part # is 1280-70"

I saved this just in case... Hope this helps.

Gloucester, I replaced the driveshaft in my '91, with a beefier one from a '94, from a yard for $50, if that center bearing goes bad, I can always buy a new bearing for $100, as mentioned earlier in the thread. but seeing as it is a stonger componant, it could last quite a while. Just a thought, it could save you a few hundred bucks from buying new.

Hey I have been doing some re-reading of Glouster Q's posts (the previous owner of my car).

I want to know is the 1994-1996 Q45 driveshaft pretty much bulliet proof besides the center bearing and one more part?

Also I read about some people rebalncing the drive shaft as well.

But I want to know because I found a sweet deal, and I am all about the best of the best of the best.
