Cell Phone Charging Question - 2006 Infiniti M35x

The fuse blew on my lighter charger next to the ashtray on my 2006 M35x. When the dealer fixed it, he said that Infiniti does not recommend using this port for charging but the port inside the center console which is very inconvenient.

Anyone ever hear this before? Is it in the manual?

Well, I don't know if this is usual or unusual per se - I am surprised by the limitation. But, it is in the 2006 M Users Manual. The wording on Page 2-39 explicitly says:

Quote »CAUTION

- The cigarette lighter socket is a power source for the cigarette lighter element only. The use of the cigarette lighter socket as a power source for any other accessory is not recommended.

- Do not use any other power outlet for an accessory lighter.[/quote]Depending on the power draw, the cigarette lighter jack may not be able to support high current devices for a long time (yes, the lighter draws a lot of current, but it is for a relatively short duration). But, I would expect that charging a phone ought to work ... most of these are relatively low-current adapters, I think.

FWIW, I use the center console jack for charging my phone (on occasion), since the cigarette lighter jack powers my radar detector (... some day ... I will wire that in!)
