CEL problem

this may be a regular CEL question but i dont see any similar problem im having being discussed here so, here it is.

CEL came on one night when the IAT sensor "fell" off so, i crimped and rewired the ends and reset the ecu. no problems there. installed a proper size MAF adapter on Monday and took the MAFsensor and IAT sensor off to do so. i forgot to plug the sensors back in and turned the key. CEL came on and tried resetting the ECU again. did this several times. CEL is still on. i know ECU diagonotics is going to show code 12 so, i dont want to bother with that. what did i do wrong besides the obvious and how do i fix the problem? tks

something is not connected properly if its throwing the code immediatly upon turning the key on. check your wires closely for breaks.
