CEL problem.. code 82 (CPS) pls help

Did a auto/man swap in my '95 s14 and swapped ecm to manual one and did the proper speed/N/5th sensor wiring. I bought a 95 ecm, so I thought, and apparently it's a '96+ cause it's throwing code 82. I have no CPS (OBDI) and I was wondering if I put a 185 Ohm (per fsm spec)resistor in line with the CPS wire on the transmission harness would the ecm "see" a CPS? Or would that eff up the ecm.... or is there another solution?
