CEL not working?

ok guys, i just noticed that when i turn the keys all the lights flash up except my check engine light. Is it not supposed to light up with everything else? If it is then how can I check if my bulb is burnt out, tampered with, etc.? thanks

Remove cluster, remove bulb, inspect or apply power to it (9v battery works). It was probably pulled out by the last owner.
