whats up, im brand new to the forums...i picked up an 01' i30 about a 2 months ago and occasionally it will throw a code for (heated 02 sensor high voltage) and than it will go off 2 days later for like a week. I dont see any correlation in when it comes on to the driving im doing. i run premium usually and i know it has like 4 02 sensors. whats also strange is lately it's been alot louder...it sounds like i may have an exhaust leak i mean it sounds mean but it bothers me could this relate to the 02 problem at all? thanks a lot i really dont know jack about this car haha

Exhaust leak may lead to erratic O2 sensor reading and even trigger a catalyst code. Better address that one and the O2 sensor problem may go away. You may have a cracked/loose weld on the exhaust pipe.

when you get the code, does the obd II reader, say something like bank 1 sensor 1, bank one is the bank of cylinders with the number one piston, and sensor 1 would be the upstream o2 sensor, upstream meaning in front of the catlytic converter, not behind it, the heater inside the o2 sensor, heats up to 600 to 650 degrees, within 20 to 60 seconds, older cars don't have heater circuit inside the o2 sensor, if the heater circuit is failing, it can take your pcm, powertrain control module, longer to go into a closed loop mode. and if the engine is just idleing, the exhaust temp may not be enough to keep the o2 sensor above 600 degrees, and that could put the pcm into a open loop mode , i have read on the nico forum to use the factory nissan/infiniti o2 sensor, some after market o2 sensors may not be within factory specs, not for certain, but i think denso makes the o2 sensor for nissan/infiniti

also could check all you electrical connections to the o2 sensors, check for corrosion.

thanks a lot those are all really good points....I got underneath it earlier for the first time and it seemed like the exhaust was intact no holes or rust spots or broken welds i'll just bring it to an exhaust shop. I cleared the 2 codes I think it was p1039 and p1038 if I can remember correctly and yes one of them was for bank sensor 1 something or another so when it pops back up I'll check if it's the upstream or downstream and definitely go with an 02 with a factory spec. again thanks a lot
