My 2014 Rogue has 62,000 miles and started acting up.
With cruise control on at a steady speed, example 69 MPH, the tachometer needle would fluctuate between 1900 and 2100 RPM's.
Over the course of two weeks it got worse, going from 1900 to 3000 RPM's, and some times staying at 3000 for a minute before dropping down. I made a video of the tachometer while driving.
Called and made an appointment for later in the week.
I'm 200 miles from home and when I'm at a stop sign, pulling away takes about 30 seconds to reach 30 MPH. This happened 4 times in a row.
The check engine light finally comes on, and at one stop sign I hear a loud whining noise.
I get to a friendly Nissan dealer (LeBrun) out in the middle of no where.
They get CEL (check engine light) code PO841. No leaks in the CVT. PO841 is a CVT transmission fluid pressure warning.
Service writer says we can start the paperwork for a replacement CVT, but you're two hours from home, and they need to fill out tons of paperwork and wait for an approval from Nissan.
So I drive 2 hours at 65 MPH back to the dealer I bought it from, with no problems, engine light is off.
The first tech at LeBrun must have cleared the codes because with no codes in the system they can't diagnosis any problems.
Second tech shows me a 8 page diagnosis that he says checks out perfect. Nothing wrong.
I show him the 3 videos of the tachometer going nuts. He said he would call Nissan but there's nothing more he can do.
Anyone else have this experience? Will this be a one time event or definitely first sign of CVT failure?
