Hey guys, I usually just browse this forum through the search function to answer my questions, but after reading through multiple archived and search results, the problem still exists.

I own a 1990 240sx with about 77k miles on it. It is completely stock. The check engine light turned on and I had a mechanic remove the head and intake manifold to clean out all the passages. I also tried some choke/TB cleaner. The prior owner replaced the EGR Solenoid when he failed smog, which temporarily fixed the CEL. Now, the CEL comes on at random at highway speeds, between 65-85 mph. Sometimes it shuts off completely, and other times it remains on. I checked the EGR valve by pushing up on the diaphram while the car was running, and the engine hestitated so I don't think it is the EGR valve. Any help?

Also, my driver side seat is very hard to slide back and forth to adjust lenth to pedals. How do I fix this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help!

pull your codes again and go from there. May not be an EGR code.

Pull your seat out and see if there is some change stuck in the track somewhere. It usually gets stuck in the right side runner [as if your sitting in the seat]

When you put the key in the ignition and turn the key onto accessory, is the check engine light as well as the lights on the right side all supposed to be on? Sorry for the newbie question, but this is my first Nissan (owned many Hondas ). On my Hondas, the check engine and oil light come on, but shut off unless there is really a CEL. On my 240, the light remains. Is this supposed to happen?

This morning, my CEL was from startup to shutdown, instead of randomly as previously stated. I ran some seafoam through the brake booster hose, and followed all the instructions on the label as well as the seafoam thread on this board. After letting it sit for 5 minutes and taking it for a run, before I hit the freeway, the CEL light turned off, and remained off throughout the entire ride on the freeway and offstreets, instead of just freeway as previously stated. It may have fixed the problem?

But is the CEL supposed to be on, until you turn on the engine, then it turns off? Please let me know, thanks for your help!

key on engine off is called bulb check mode. in that mode the check engine light should be on. so yes, the light should stay on untill you start the car. i have noticed that on hondas the light goes out after a period of time but this is not the case on nissans.
