Got this code over the weekend and from what i have researched, it could mean that I need a new tcc solenoid. I have been looking all over the web and cant find anything on buying one. Is this a dealer only part or what? Does anyone know where you can buy one?

Please provide make and model year so we can respond better. Make preliminary checks - transmission fluid level is normal; no corrsoion on TCM nor loose connector from the transmission housing. Problem could be the TCC solenoid valve or even the Shift Solenoid valve.

Oh sorry about that, forgot to add that info. It is a 2001 Nissan Maxima. Where can you buy these 2 parts if it is either of them? I have looked online and see them availble nowhere.

Took my maxima to a transmission shop this morning. Free test. They hooked up a scanner and found the same code I told them about P0740. THey said it has something to do with the lockup-torque converter. I told them I have been researching this alot and have heard it could be a tcc solenoid or shift solenoid, if thats possible. They said well, we have to look into it and take it apart to check wiring and converter at a price of $160 for 2 hours labor. What you guys think? I then called another transmission shop and told them aboust the P0740 code and they told me that it usually is the valve body needs replacing. Thsy said they have a Nissan scanner type tool and for $45 they will have it for 2 hours and when its done scanning they will be able to tell me exactly whats up, solenoids and what ever else is needing replacing. He said a whole valve body replacement is like $929 YIKES! But i hear some just replace the bad solenoids andf that takes care of the issue.

Usually, it's just the solenoid valve.

Most likely the TCC Solenoid Valve. Please refer to the link below, starting on page AT-151.

Thanks alot loystock. The transmission shop I last took the car to said that they only sell the whole valve body not seperate parts. This tcc solenoid is in the valve body, can you buy it by itself? If so, who would sell it by itself? Courtesy auto?

Well I took the car to the transmission shop and they are looking deep into the p0740 code. They say its most likely is a solenoiod problem, but are not ruling out the converter or transmission. I just hope they are not gonna try and get me to repcae or rebuild the transmission. You know how some of these shops are. They say they are talking to the dealer in regards to what the machine is telling them that they are diagnosing. He did say that out of 111 maximas that they have worked on, it usually is one of the solenoids that is the culprit. Keeping fingers crossed .
