hey folks;wondering about the" light on the ceiling "of my versa,it seems to me other cars ,you can turn the dimmer switch for the dashboard lights and when it clicks the interior light goes on .in the versa i have to turn on the light by flicking the switch on the roof.they said at the dealer that doesn't happen in this car..thanks

I have owned a lot of cars, and I have NEVER had one that the dome light was controlled or turned on by the interior light dimmer switch.

What you are describing is normal. The dome light, like most cars, is manually operated, or can be set to turn on when a door is ajar.

My Dodge Neon's light was controlled by the dimmer switch, but my versa has the manual toggle

The dimmer switch thing is an American car thing. If you never had one, you wouldn't know.

My Saturn never did that. Nor my mom's Grand Prix. Or my dad's Rampage.

It's probably just selective models.

Look at it this way. If your lights are controlled by a Stalk, you will not have a ceiling light control. If you still push, pull, or turn a switch on the dash somewhere you'll probably find a ceiling light switch there also.

It's not really an american car thing, it's more of a daimler chrysler thing. My girlfirend's PT Cruiser uses the dimming wheel.

I have a Chevy S-10 and it has that dimmer switch that can turn the interior light on. The dome light itsself doesn't have the option the switch it on or off. just fyi

In my Chevy cavalier, the dimmer switch controlled the ceiling light. While it may or may not be an "American" thing... the exact ceiling light on our cars is used by Toyota, Nissan and Honda in many many models. And rightly so... it works, right? Why design something new? So many are used in cars now, I bet that's one of the cheapest parts in the whole car.

My Dodge Ram also has the dimmer wheel in it. I had a old Honda in the past that had a manual on/off switch on the roof.

Being well above the average age on the boards, I'll step in and say it's an old-school thing that US manufacturers haven't completely given up.

My wife and I had close to this same discussion trundling along in our (new to us) '86 motorhome Friday.

Headlights turned on by pulling a knob on the dash.Dash lights dimmed by rotating that knob.Dome light turned on by rotating that same knob past the brightest dash light setting.High beams turned on/off by pushing a button on the floor.

I rememnber some General Motors advertising in the '80's when they virtually claimed to have invented stalk mounted controls for lights and wipers. Funny that my '72 Datsun 1200 had those
