I think what happened was I turned a little too hard and a gallon of antifreeze in the trunk slid and smacked the CD Changer. It turned off as I was driving.

The CD Changer gets power, I can eject the cartridge. Usually if the sound is going off/on its a loose connection but this is not the case this time.

The remote wire (trigger wire) of my amp is wired to the CD changers power wire. So when the CD Changer turns on the amp will turn on. Actually it would work regardless if the changer is on or off. But it just doesn't turn on.

So what can I do?

Reset by disconnecting then reconnecting adapter plug in trunk.

Fix the coolant leak!

Who would have thought a leaking cooling system would end up taking out a CD player....in the trunk!!!

Already tried that... This happened once before so I opened it and didn't really do much but put it back together and it started working. Did that this time with no luck.

Oh BTW, I have no coolant leak... just have a gallon in the trunk in case. Also have 5 quarts of oil just in case.

So its just the display that doesn't work on the CD player. It powers up fine, ejects and inserts cartridge fine. I just really like my CD player and don't plan on getting an MP3 player. How can I fix this?

did a search but no results in the archives

You've got to address the root cause of the problem or it's going to happen again. Sorry I can't help with the CD player but here's what I've done to secure permanent storage items in the trunks of my Q's.

In the 90Q I used a bicycle basket and hold it in place with a couple of bungees using the existing fasteners/holes for the trunk trim. No spare fluids other than water since she stays close to home.

In the 94Q I've done the same but with different straps and a smaller basket. The 94-96 Q's have the trunk net which holds all the spare fluids needed for a road trip.

Wow thats a great idea I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier. Thanks!

Oh... I fixed my CD Changer!!! Took the dash apart real quick and found a bad fuse on the power wire from the HU to the CD Changer.

The thing is that it takes a 1 Amp fuse and I didnt have any of those so I put a 10 Amp fuse on it. Its working but is that OK?

Also I realize now that when the deck powers on my amplifier also powers on since its connected to the CD changer which powers on with the HU.

15 Years and still going strong! not to mention how much of a beating it takes.

The fuse amperage is designed to keep something from burning up or causing a fire... so yeah, you want to get the correct fuse. Your solution shows that there isn't a dead short, but I wouldn't use it for long. Sort of like the old "penny in the fuse box" trick.

If your CD player is finished, I have a new Sony player(maybe a 5 disc) that I will sell cheap.
