My stock 95 240sx cd player was reading CD's fine until the day I left the lights on and the battery died. Ever since then it doesn't read CD, burned or real. I searched the board but found no solution. The radio works fine and I can put a CD in and it seems like it tries to read it but after, it spits the CD back out, even a CD with no scratchs. Please tell me if you have any suggestions for making it read again. Thanks :)

threatn it a couple times with a flat head screwdriver, then when it refuses your demands give it one last chance to redeem itself , then proceed to stab at it with said screwdriver an gut it good, then goto the store an by a nice aftermarket radio!

hmm. What cds are you trying to play? If its nsync or O town that might be the problem... otherwise id say its toast and its laser isnt reading... Pop it out and bring it to a repair shop or buy a new one.

This is going to sound stupid but it has worked on several cars brought in for repair. Remove your battery cable (+) and wait 90 seconds. Then hook it back up. Some radios need a Hard reset, that is where power is completly removed and then re-applied. If that doesnt work, go with the screwdriver suggestion.

The battery drain incident and CD player failure might just be coincidence. I've never heard of a loss of power JUST toasting the ability for the head to read a CD (maybe a power surge would do that.... but I can't see how).

Ayway, my stock Clarion CD player did the same thing. After about a year of owneship (I purchased it in January 2000) it just stopped reading most CDs. I would insert the CD..... it would make some spinning noises and other random sounds..... then spit it back at me!

Get a new CD player. It's not very expensive... and the sound quality will be much better. Two choices though: get a LOW power head and install it normally. Or, get a high power aplified head and bypass the facory amp.
