Thought I would give this a shot, see if anyone has had the same issues.

96Qt 120k. Bose stero with the 10 disc sony in the back. All stock.

The radio, speakers, antenna, everything works fine except the CD player.

it accepts and ejects the cartridge, but when I go to play the CD's the stereo says "CD Error."

Not sure if this is a bad connection somewhere or if the CD player is simply shot. It did play once in the last 2 months for about 15 minutes. It would let me change discs and everything. Then I changed the disc again, and the error message came up, and went back to not working.

Anyone have some thoughts on this?

Thanks

Adam

True. However, I want it working. Everything else on the car is mint. Suggestions?

Only if you have tin ears or listen to synthetic audio offal!

Disconnect the lead in to the proprietary control box on the player first.

I assume no disc is trapped in the player?

This happened to me just last week, on the road. The Sony CD player was acting goofy, eventually read CD Error and refused to function, refused to eject the cartridge.

You need to physically unplug the harness from the player, back in the trunk. Unfortunately, the plug is between the player and the fender and is a b1tch to get to. If you can get more than one hand in there, and you know how the plug is built, you may be able to unplug it without unbolting the player. I had to unbolt it. There's a small square button in the middle of one side of the plug that has to be depressed before it'll let go. And the pins are VERY small, so care is recommended. Otherwise, unscrew the two plastic holddown plugs tying the player liner to the trunk liner. Often, they're stripped, so you'll need to pull on them as you try to unscrew them. That'll expose the three bolts that hold the bracket to the trunk. Pull them. You can then turn the player and unplug it. When I plugged it back in, it was willing to spit out the cartridge, and when I turned the ignition on, the head acknowledged the player and everything worked normally again.

Much, much easier to just pull the fuse for the changer located in fusebox by parking brake release lever.

Ultimatly, if this resets the changer,it will be a temporary fix-the sony is garbage and this is a well known problem with this changer-why nissan switched to a 6 disc clarion unit.

The Clarion 6 CD was a dealer installed option and the only resort when the Sony player was discontinued.

Infiniti dropped Sony alltogether as a CD changer supplier from 1997 on due to poor quality control. Sony continued to market CD changers for both the aftermarket and other OEM applications. The specific Sony changer used on the G50 was only discontinued because nissan dropped Sony......

Wow, I did the same thing and it worked 110% for me. I had 0 problems with it when I did it and it sounded crisp. I payed $6 for the Ipod connection from CVS. I will admit I was a little skeptical at first and after turning off Base Boost it was a pleasure. I mounted the Ipod right in from of me so I can change songs while driving with no problems. I think its a fantastic alternative to purchasing a CD player. I hate listening to FM because of all the commercial music that is constantly being played. In any event he can do both if he has an Ipod. Also I am not talking about the FM band radio connection which is a rip off and sounds like a**, I was taking about the tape deck connection.

Not true. Sony went to a different design where the player mechanism didn't move. It was not a Nissan specific design, but adapted via the proprietary control box for the proprietary Clarion head unit commands.

Unless you have the Nissan Board meeting minutes.......

All you have to do is look at the respective compression algorithms. Why do you think MP3 files are so much smaller? It is because information is missing!

Notice neither classical nor acoustic music lovers embrace the MP3 format.

I spend a great deal of time in the recording studio and working with different music, image and video file conversions. I would say that yes sound quality suffers greatly when you are not going straight from a master to CD like most original works albums are. Some of the files used on Ipods and both MP3's and AAC files. The main thing about MP3 sound quality is based on the method used to convert and what some one is converting from. If you by an album off I-Tunes the quality is great in my opinion. If you upload from CD to computer your going to loose significant amounts of information for compression reasons. Not a lot of people change the pitch or know how to adjust the range when converting from CD to MP3 on their computers.

I will agree about the classical music, because I for one listen to classical time to time. I like it best from the CD so your right on that. When it comes to generally speaking most music is digitally compressed in midi format prior to any other format even in major recording studios. The better the midi mix down and mastering the better the MP3. Another thing that plays a huge roll is the quality of the system your listening to. You can miss a lot of the panning and overlays in music with a bad speakers. I've noticed that the Bose speakers in the Q45 where more then efficient for me to enjoy music via ipod. I think if any body wants the best quality out of there music, avoid bit torrents, Limewire and such, buy the CD and use Nero to adjust the pitch before saving to MP3. The files will be bigger but if your concern is sound quality then that is the best way.

I have a 95 q45 and I would like to know whether or not the clarion cv 737 will work in my car. Would it be plug and play? I have read that it works in the 1996 model, but not the 1995. Is this true or not?

That CD is being reproduced through a modest Bose sound system. Who the hell cares about compression at that point? Its like complaining because there's not enough lettuce in your Big Mac.

I have the same problem, only with the tape player. My car is a 97/q45. Sometimes it will play, then stop, and error would show, then it would go haywire, and start accepting and ejecting the tape, even if the tape was taken out. The CD is fine, only I don't know how many CD's it holds. I don't have the manual for the audio system.....Help...Please.........skitz34
